Perfect BalanceAt an enquiry held immediately after the race into the running and riding of PERFECT BALANCE, ridden by Jockey Afzal Khan and trained by Mr. Patrick Quinn, Jockey Afzal Khan stated that he was instructed to place his mount in a forward position and to do his best thereafter. However, he was unable to place his mount in an advantageous position in the early stages of the race due to being drawn in Stall No. 13. Mr. Afzal Khan continued by stating that in the final stages of the race he could not ride his mount to complete advantage as he had a wall of horses in front of him. Tr. Patrick Quinn when queried confirmed his instructions to Jockey Afzal Khan and blamed the filly’s early disadvantageous position in the race due to its draw in Stall No. 13. The Stipendiary Stewards after viewing the CCTV replay, with particular reference to the final 300 metres of the race, were satisfied that though Jockey Afzal Khan had every opportunity to infuse greater vigour to his riding, he failed to do so. Consequently the Stipendiary Stewards decided to fine Jockey Afzal Khan a sum of Rs. 10,000/ for the injudicious handling of his mount and further cautioned him that should he ride in a similar manner in future, he would be reported to the Stewards for stringent disciplinary action. Further, Tr. Patrick Quinn was advised to ensure that horses under his training are run and ridden in such manner that leaves no room for query.

Vikash Jaiswal and App Hasib Alam were questioned regarding the running and riding of ch g JORELL which was observed to be positioned at the rear of the field in the early and middle stages of the race. Tr. Vikash Jaiswal stated that he had instructed the apprentice to be positioned 4th/5th in the early stages and on entering the straight to do his best. He continued by stating that the gelding which was slow into its stride had performed in a similar manner from the gates on quite a few earlier occasions. Further he was pleased that the gelding had made some quick progress in the final 300 metres of the race. On questioning the apprentice corroborated the instructions given by the Trainer and stated that in spite of being alert at the start the gelding was slow to begin. The Stipendiary Stewards after reviewing all its runs from the Calcutta Cold Weather Season 20162017 and Calcutta Monsoon Meeting 2017 noted their explanations.
