Horses which had been subjected to solid preparation, dominated the proceedings.
May 23, 2010: Irfan Ghatala trained Sun Kingdom recorded a stylish win in the Gr 2 Juvenile Million, the traditional lead up race for summer classics on Sunday. By virtue of this fine win, Sun Kingdom comes into classic reckoning. Two of the most hyped horses, Sunset Boulevard and Foreign Exchange dented their reputation with below par performances.
May 29, 2010: Pesi Shroff trained Astral Flash who was overshadowed by stablemate Jacqueline on three occasions at Mumbai, came into her own when she trounced the opposition in the Dhamaprakasha L S Venkaji Rao Memorial Cup (Div I), the feature event of Saturday’s races. The Usha Stud Farm bred got-abroad filly had the opposition stranded.
May 30, 2010: Satish Narredu trained Sprint Star proved that he is invincible on his home turf when beating a seasoned lot of horses en route to a splendid win in the Gr 3 Karnataka Cup, a terms race for four year olds and over, the highlight of Sunday’s races. Suraj Narredu rode a peach of a race on the winner.
June 5, 2010: Suleiman Attaollahi trained Spearhead was simply unstoppable in the 2000 metres K N Guruswamy Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 80 and above, which featured Saturday’s races. Saturday was a day most punters would like to cherish for long as it was one of those rare days where favourite after favourite obliged with amazing consistency.
June 6, 2010: Contrary to public expectation of a close tussle between established sprinter Palazzio’s Sun and fast improving Astral flash, the Gr 3 Chief Minister’s Cup, the feature event of Sunday’s races turned out to be an anti-climax with Padmanabhan trained Celestial Way recording an emphatic win.
June 12, 2010: Rain and reluctance on the part of jockeys’ refusal to ride after a heavy downpour resulted in four of the seven races of Saturday being cancelled. The cancellation possibly saved the punters from becoming victims if the reluctant jockeys were forced to ride. The authorities appeared to be helpless in enforcing their dictate against a reluctant jockey fraternity.
June 13, 2010: Jaggy Dhariwal trained Siachen produced an electrifying burst of speed and sealed the fate of the Gr 1 Fillies Trial Stakes, the first classic of the season well before favourite Moonlight Romance could squeeze her way along the rails. Jockey Srinath gave Siachen an unhindered run and contributed significantly in the victory of the second favourite.
June 19, 2010: Padmanabhan trained Becket showed the attributes of a champion when coming from way off the pace to record an impressive win the Gr 3 Chief Justice’s Cup, the highlight of races held on Saturday. The victory of lesser fancied runners at the expense of some strong market fancies caused a big dent in the pockets of punters.
June 20, 2010: Irfan Ghatala trained Sun Kingdom emerged as a strong contender for the forthcoming Kingfisher Derby with a classy performance which had the field well beaten in the Gr 1 HDIL Colts Trial Stakes, the second classic of the season on Sunday. Sun Kingdom has all the attributes of a champion.
June 26, 2010: Irfan Ghatala trained Advantage Logan maintained his amazing consistency by recording his fifth win from seven outings on Saturday. The Capricorn Stud Farm bred Advantage Logan held off the challenge of 10 other contestants en route to victory in the Karnataka Sub-Area Cup, the feature event of the day.
June 27, 2010: The Capricorn Stud Farm bred Sirono won the Gr 3 Deccan Chronicle Juvenile Sprinters Million, the feature event of Sunday’s races in a thriller from Carla. The winner clocked a fast time of one minute 12.02 seconds. The day’s races did not run kindly for punters as just one strongly backed favourite obliged in a card of nine events.
July 3, 2010: Jaggy Dhariwal trained Angelfire duly accomplished the task assigned to her by winning the H D Gundappa Gowda Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 80 and above, the feature event of Saturday’s races. Zervan rode the favourite with great tact. This apprentice jockey from Mumbai seems to have improved a lot during his stint in Bangalore.
July 4, 2010: The Usha Stud Farm bred Arabian Prince brought off a surprise win against the run of expectations in the Gr 2 Maharaja’s Cup, the feature event of Sunday’s races. Becket who was widely expected to win the coveted race, faded out of reckoning in the closing stages of the race to finish third. Jockey Suraj Narredu who failed to deliver the goods on Becket, however, was the most successful jockey, with three winners to his credit.
July 10, 2010: Padmanabhan trained Celestial Way nosed out Sprint Star in a sensational finish in the Gr 2 HDIL BTC Anniversary Cup, the highlight of Saturday’s races. Padmanabhan thus completed a hat-trick in this race having won in the last two years with Rhapsidion Snow. Couleur Rouge held off the spirited bid of Kohinoor Wish to win the Arshad Ali Khan Memorial Cup, the supporting event of the day.
July 11, 2010: Richard Hughes stole the Gr 1 Kingfisher Bangalore Derby, the richest race of the Bangalore Racing Calendar on Moonlight Romance with a trade mark tactical ride on Sunday. If any race was determined by jockey factor, this was it. Suraj Narredu failed to customize his ride on the favourite to suit the rapidly changing scenario.
July 17, 2010: Ganapathy trained Magnanimity romped home in the S M Ramakrishna Rao Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 80 and above, which featured the lackluster card of eight events that were gone through on Saturday. The five year old progeny of China Visit had been pretty consistent and in the hands of Frenchman Ladjadj Stephan, won with a degree of comfort.
July 18, 2010: Jaggy Dhariwal trained Arabian Prince became the first progeny of Burden of Proof to win over the grueling trip of 2800 metres as he held off a stiff challenge from Fleet Indian to land the spoils in the Gr 2 Bangalore St Leger, the last classic of the season on Sunday. Elusive Way and Record Breaker were impressive winners of the day.
July 24, 2010: Satish Narredu trained Flaming Lamborgini built on his last win to get the measure of favorite Captivating in the 1400 metres J B Mallaradhya Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 80 and above, the feature event of Saturday’s races. Captivating led all the way but weakened in sight of the winning post as she was ring rusty, this being her first run in the season. Jockey Suraj Narredu had a rewarding day, booting home four winners.
July 25, 2010: Ganapathy trained Magisterial emerged as a strong contender for the Mysore Classics as he made a smooth transition from sprint to a mile within a fortnight while winning the Gr 3 Bangalore Summer Million, the feature event of Sunday’s races. The Summer Million has always served as a pointer to classics in Mysore and judging by the decisive victory recorded by Magisterial, he is destined to go places unless of course physical limitations come in the way. Trained Ganapathy saddled a treble.
July 30, 2010: Padmanabhan trained Polish Patriot romped home in the K N Chennabasappa Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 80 and above, the feature event of Saturday’s races. The progeny of Polish Precedent who perhaps excelled in the soft underfoot conditions zipped away from favourite Shotgunn and the rest to win in impressive fashion.
