Trainer Sajid hogs limelight with a quadruple

By: Sridhama   July 28 , 2010

Trainer Md. Sajid Quereshi stole the limelight on Wednesday at Mysore with a quadruple. The winners came through Callidora, Chakravyuha Bhedak, Master Yoda and Lyra which were all well fancied. Jockey Ravinder Singh was astride two of these winners. Race goers had a good outing as fancied runners dominated the proceedings which is proof of the fact that if the authorities act tough, professionals tend to be on guard which in turn has a positive effect on the way they let form horses to perform to their potential. Racing in the last one month has been enjoyable as the authorities have been firm in dealing with errant professionals though sadly the BTC Stewards have been diluting the punishment without mitigating factors. Though Mysore races under BTC Rules of Racing, the latter has a lesson or two to learn from their counterparts.

The BOL Publication Cup which featured the day`s card went the way of Master Yoda. Master Yoda had served notice of an imminent success in his last run. Predictably, he was backed with conviction and he readily obliged the confidence of his backers. He traveled well off the pace and made steady progress on the wide outside before getting into his act. Master Yoda picked up the front runners one by one and assumed command with a furlong out and went away for a facile win. Master Yoda can repeat as he seems to be in rousing form. Worth A Gold found foot late to finish second by edging ahead of Collateral.

Lyra, who had proved her mettle over seven furlongs in the past, won the mile long race for horses rated 60 and above. Racing a handy third, Lyra took charge inside the final quarter mile and sped away for a comfortable win over Café Coffee who let down his supporters for second time in a row. Café Coffee took his own time to pick up speed from mid bunch and all he could do in the straight was to bridge the gap with the front runner. Café Coffee reportedly returned with a burst blood vessel.

Princess Nero who had an easy outing in a terms race last time out, won as a medium of a big gamble. Assigned to four kilo allowance claimer Santosh, she was backed with conviction and ended up as a favorite close to race time. Santosh rode a neat race, keeping his horse in the fourth position before pushing it through a gap that opened up in the middle. Princess Nero sped away for an easy win over Sun Device who yet again made a late rally to finish second best. .

Chakravyuha Bhedak who had lost by a whisker last time out to Masurathi made good the loss. Kept in check, Chakravyuha Bhedak was produced wide and he started moving up with a flourish to leave the field stranded. Royal View flashed home with a good turn of foot from no where to snatch the second berth from Jugnu. Fancied Irish Intellect made no show.

Running in lower class, Simply Dangerous readily obliged. Simply Dangerous, who was looking a picture of fitness in the paddock, was backed down spiritedly and he did not disappoint in the hands of Frenchman Stephane Ladjadj. Simply Dangerous led all the way and despite drifting out from a straight course, he had enough reserves to win capably. Sterling Speed chased the front runner in vain. The third placed Happiness is the one for the notebook.

Noname was one more to oblige as a medium of a gamble. Backed down spiritedly, Noname did not give anxious moments to his supporters. Jockey Chandrasekhar had him settled in the fourth position before setting alight the fancied runner. The seven year old gelding zipped past the front runners to win easily. Final Frontier found the weight a stopper while Aspiring Seven who was in front inside the final 400 metres, faded out of contention after raising hopes.

Hero`s Dominance was backed with confidence despite apprentice jockey Janardhan riding the first race of his career. Janardhan appeared to be at sea and was overawed by the occasion. Hero`s Dominance galloped well towards the close, all by himself to finish third. Callidora easily held off Smile Again.
