By: Tippu Sultan   October 3 , 2012

Shezad Abbas trained Crown Crystal had a tough task on hand inside the final furlong but the progeny of Tejano covered ground with a resolute surge and managed to nose out Twentyfive Pips in the final stride of the G Sudhakar Reddy Memorial Cup (Div I), a Category II race which featured races held at Malakpet on Wednesday. The heavily backed Silver Crown won the lower division of the race. While rains ravaged on the Derby day, rains kept away on Wednesday. Races ran kindly for punters with well backed horses to the fore.

Favourite Dream Deal led the field into the straight over the six furlong trip with Twentypips and Crown Crystal chasing in earnest. Crown Crystal was baulked for a clear run along the rails and jockey Imran Khan had to pull him out which forced the lesser fancied runner to cover more ground in addition to breaking his rhythm. In the meanwhile, Twentyfivepips had measured the front runner and had opened up a useful lead. However, Crown Crystal finished strongly after being pulled out and managed to get the verdict on the post. Though the margin of victory was wafer thin, Crown Crystal could have won with a better margin but for the denied passage along the rails.

Silver Crown came in for a spirited thrust in the lower division of the race and when horses from Satyanarayana`s stable are so well backed, they rarely miss the target. In keeping with this trend, Silver Crown who shot ahead with a furlong left in the race, burst away from the pack to win by a widening margin of four lengths over Cristiano and Best Pal.

A quiet touch was brought off on Anupam Sharma trained Kohinoor Pride. The horse which had finished last after being lethargic in his previous start, was backed by people in the know in the 1100 metres Sweet Memorias Plate, a Category III race. Kohinoor Pride broke off well from the gates and inside the final furlong; he was spotted as a runaway winner. Kohinoor Pride went away for an impressive win over Sugar Deal who found the lesser fancied runner too good to contend with.

Vittal Deshmukh`s Racing Queen was the betting rage in the 1100 metres Paradis Plate (Div I), a race for maiden three year olds. The favourite proved too ground as Pradeep Chouhan had Racing Queen gain decisive advantage along the rails and left the field struggling to win easily from Rebut. Prince Prashant was a notable third. Chouhan also drove out Exclusive to win the lower division of the race. One reason why Chouhan gets a big tally of winners is the fact that he gets the best rides in addition to being the best jockey on the scene. He got Exclusive to pick up speed in the final furlong to nail the front running Laughing Eyes and then had no problem in holding off the challenge of Pakat Pakat Pakat and Camacho Speed.

Satheesh trained Sweet Candy won the Almanac Cup, a Category III race, over six furlongs quite easily. Sweet Candy quickened nicely along the rails to go storming clear in the straight. Cannon Law gained ground significantly in the final stages of the race but still fell short by half a length.

Stylish Chieftan was backed exclusively to win the 1400 metres Red Rufus Plate, a Category III race. The favourite swamped the opposition to win by over seven lengths. After giving company to Stylish Chieftain into the straight, Cherry Hill failed to keep pace and was a long way second.
