Brave Vision fetches another bonanza

By: True Blue   April 6 , 2013

Brave Vision (Senure – Desert Sunrise) owned by Haresh Mehta defied the seemingly stiff 6.5kg penalty for his previous victory when he claimed the Kailashpat Singhania Trophy and notched his second straight victory. S. K. Sunderji trained Brave Vision was also helped by the disinterest shown by majority of the runners and the novice-like ride given by N. S. Parmar to favourite Sugar Loaf. R. K. Mahesh ridden Emerging Star went into the lead as expected and though he showed some tenacity in trying to tackle the extra furlong on this occasion, he started to gasp for breath. With Sugar Loaf hurled into a black hole towards the inner rails by Parmar, Trevor Patel had enough time to get Brave Vision to warm up to his task before the favourite could recover. Brave Vision then flashed on the outer lane and stretched out to win from Sugar Loaf, who suffered Parmar`s unconvincing ride, and Emerald Valley who too essayed his challenged late. Emerging Star, who was made to battle till the end, finished fourth.

Interestingly, half an hour earlier, a similar uncharacteristic ride from S. Zervan saw the downfall of favourite Jeremiah, who ran in the same colours as Brave Vision. Zervan too got Jeremiah in a spot of bother when the field entered the home stretch. This allowed second favourite B. Sreekanth ridden Mars (Ace – Queen Ann) to get into a striking position at the turn while Jeremiah seemed all at sea when trying to make his challenge. Mars, the Karthik Ganapathy trained property M. A. M. Ramaswamy, then stepped up pace and overhauled Noble Reward who had taken charge from early leader Schumii. Mars was home and dry till Zervan could find a clear run for Jeremiah. Noble Reward ran third and was way clear of the other runners.

Feodor (Captain Rio – Motocross), the dark bay filly owned by Mr & Mrs K. N. Dhunjibhoy and Mr & Mrs Zahir K. Dhunjibhoy, lived up to the expectations of the punters and easily accounted for her main rival Colourful Prince who was brushed up to take up the running at the start. Nina Lalvani`s ward raced in the sixth position till the turn but showed tremendous acceleration when Malcolm Kharadi showed her daylight after coming into the straight. Feodor devoured ground as she chased Colourful Prince and easily collared him in the last furlong. The favourite returned home a facile winner and had Colourful Prince and Ainra following her home. Earth Tamer retired to be fourth after chasing Colourful Prince throughout.

Purple Patch (Alnasr Alwasheek – La Unique) was powered to victory by A. Sandesh in a close finish with the five-horse field competing for the Ramjet Plate finishing just over a length within each other. Top-weighted Running Sun led all the way and looked like pulling off a stunning upset before the M. K. Jadhav trained winner gathered momentum in the home stretch. Seven Seas, Fortune Hunter and favourite Octopaul, who recovered after his habitual lethargic start, all raced in close proximity but it was Purple Patch who caught up with Running Sun first and held on gallantly to the narrow lead. Running Sun held on to the runner-up by the skin of his teeth as both Fortune Hunter and Octopaul raced abreast. In hindsight, it appeared that Octopaul was done in by the harsh penalty he received for his previous success.

Neeraj Rawal ridden filly Edith Piaf (Black Cash – Selerina`s Song) from Nosher Cama`s yard ran true to form and justified her favouritism. The filly tracked down early leader Stolen Relic in the straight and took charge of the running. She was however pressed hard to win from second favourite Purple Mokara, who came with his usual late flourish. Ice Empire ended third as Stolen Relic faded out towards the end.

Don Surti trained Nigella (China Visit – Supreme Discovery), who was obviously on a weight-reducing mission throughout this season, caught the punters unawares on this occasion. Ridden by Zameer Sayyed, Nigella found her moorings in exactly the twentieth start of her career. She took charge in the straight and not only held on from the late-finishing Daredevil but also survived the objection raised by the latter. Speeding showed tremendous improvement to finish in the money ahead of Viva Capri.

Wind Craft (Aragorn – Tight Circle) from H. J. Antia`s yard grabbed the initiative soon as the starter`s flag came down and achieved a start-to-finish victory in the hands of apprentice Prasad at the end of the day. The favourite however scraped through to escape the clutches of his erstwhile owner-mate Matter of Heart (formerly Ocean Yarrman), who literally came flying towards the end, as also Star Blessings and Towering High.

Antia had led in another winner through Ice Skater (Black Star – Touch A Star) who floored the punters with hit the front with Hanumant Singh in the saddle and won troubled all the way home. Mateus Rose warmed up late to finish second while Menage A Trois and Walk of Life ended close behind.

Il Moran (Senure – Sunspangled) also shed his maiden status when racing in the lowest class. Ridden by D. K. Ashish, Malesh Narredu trained Il Moran unleashed a powerful run in the straight and drew away for a comfortable win over Desert Eagle, Run Like The Wind and Carpe Diem.

M. P. Jodha saddled Stylish Strokes (Hymn – Different Strokes) made full use of her rider S. Mosin`s 5kg allowance and won pillar to post from Allegiance who was in futile chase throughout. The Saint came with a late run to be third ahead of Aleutian Zone.
