By: Stay Thirsty   July 29 , 2014

Michael Eshwer trainer Fink recoded his sixth straight win when claiming the 1400 metres Mysore Race Club Million, the highlight of the concluding day`s races of the Mysore Summer Season on Tuesday. This is the first time that a racing season had been held under the aegis of Mysore Race Club after it became in independent turf authority. For the record, trainer Pratap Kamath and jockey Y S Srinath were champions in their respective category.

The three year old son of Phoenix Tower, Fink has been an outstanding performer on the local circuit. On the lone occasion that he ventured out of his comfort zone, he beat a quality field to claim the Bangalore Juvenile Million in March. The trainer perhaps chose to give the Manjri Stud Farm produce more time to grow physically and preferred to race him on the local circuit, waiting for the opposition to come from other centres for the classics during the regular season which is due to start on Thursday, August 21. There is no doubt about the talent that Fink possesses. Undoubtedly, he is superior to the local horses by a big margin.

The race was at the mercy of Fink though he was conceding weight to all his adversaries. That the bookmakers were not prepared to give generous odds on him was not a surprise because nobody expected any of the eight contestants to topple the favourite. Srinath kept Fink out of trouble in about the fourth position as Society Music did all the front running. Flying Rani made her move in the straight being driven out while Fink covered places on her without having to be extended. A tap or two by Srinath was enough for Fink to stretch away to win by four lengths plus over Rising Rani. Murcilago who lost some ground at the start rallied well in the straight to edge out long time leader Society Music from the third slot.

Srinath, who rode Fink, also achieved a hat-trick as he won the other two races of the day. He had to drive out veteran trainer Zareer Darashah`s Bandito with all the resources at his command to get last start winner to measure Time Flies in the 1200 metres Capt Nabi Khan Memorial Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Robinhood Pandey threatened the first two finishers in the furlong but could only finish a close third. The lower division of the race was more dramatic. Class Above who fought out a resolute battle with favourite Teri Adah hung in badly. The three year old crossed over to the rails even as he was overhauling the favourite causing Pradeep Chouhan to check his horse and change course but went on to record a commanding win. Precept who covered lot of ground in the final furlong managed to nose out Teri Adah from the runner up berth. Chouhan put an objection against Shiva Kumar who rode the winner for interference which cost him the race. He argued vehemently even when he knew he had very little ground for the Stewards to consider his appeal favorably and lost it in the end.

The third straight winner for Srinath fittingly came in the concluding race of the season where he rode out favourite Esoterical to overtake Little Athena and long time leader Thrillseeker for an easy win in the 1400 metres Oncidium Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. C V G K Kishore trained Greenbro made a good rally along the inside and managed to overtake Second Lady who had just then shook of favourite Grand Success and land the spoils at nourishing odds in the lower division of the race.

There was a thrilling battle in the final furlong between Spiritual Blue and Pepper King who finished with a flourish, with the verdict going the way of the latter in the 1600 metres Divine Light Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. The Pratap Kamath trainee Pepper King returned nourishing odds on those who put faith in the four year old gelding. Favourite Touch of Romance finished poorly.
Kamath trained Spinning Chakram who is in good nick this season, recorded her third win of the season by easily claiming the 2000 metres Bannur Plate, a race for horses rated 60 and above. Chouhan had Spinning Chakram track Yamas into the straight before sailing clear. Scholar who had been confined to shorter trips right through his career was essaying a mile and quarter trip but nevertheless showed that he was not out of sorts when finishing well to take the second slot ahead of stablemate Demanding Format.

In a three horse finish, Lagoona managed to neck out Pepper and Born For Passion to win the 1200 metres Carnival Plate, a race for horses rated 0 to 25. Pepper and Born For Passion for fighting out even as Pepper was struggling and the jockey unable to keep the four year old filly on an even keel. However, closer home, Lagoona managed to overhaul the front runners to land the spoils as a favourite.
Lesser fancied Supreme Strength recorded a repeat win in the 1400 metres Jan E Jan Plate, another race for horses in the lowest class. Supreme Strength went on a start to finish mission and though he came off the rails, the seven year olds was still good enough to keep his rivals at bay. Arch Angel was the best of the beaten brigade while finishing second.
