Secret Hunter in tremendous form

By: Stay Thirsty   September 19 , 2014

M Bobby trained Secret Hunter proved overwhelmingly superior in the 1200 metres Nanie & Songs Cup, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Friday`s races. Secret Hunter simply swept the field off their feet as he cantered home to a resounding win. The majority of races were won by horses which had nourishing odds.

Secret Hunter had been a rousing performer as a juvenile at Mumbai. After being re-located at Mysore, he had a forward during the summer season, finishing second. Thereafter, he showed the spark of old when he slammed the opposition with a start to finish dash in his last outing. On the basis of that runaway win, he was once again installed the firm favourite. Secret Hunter yet again accomplished a similar success, with Virat rallying late to finish second ahead of Will Star. In the form that he is in, Secret Hunter can achieve a hat-trick.

Top Spot had lost narrowly to Emperor Cruise in a juvenile million during the summer season. Subsequent to that run, he had performed poorly. On the other hand, Emperor Cruise who had beaten him in the million at level weights hadn`t anything noteworthy. His unruly behavior at the gates had seen him being withdrawn from the fray last week. Since he was conceding weight to Top Spot, the latter was well placed to pull it off in the 1200 metres Mysore Race Club Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Flying Tricolour led the field into the straight as is his wont before fading out. Emperor Cruise then took over the running but could not quicken enough to make a difference. Top Spot showed up on the wide outside and sped away for an effortless win by a widening margin of three lengths over late finishing Optimus Zone. Emperor Cruise was a well beaten third. The horse has not built on his good show in the million during the summer season. Cattleya who had let down a couple of times as a fancied runner, obliged at nourishing odds in the lower division of the race. Jockey Pradeep Chouhan had Cattleya dictating the pace from the start and the progeny of C P West quickened very well in the final furlong to go beyond the reach of favourite Arch Duchess. Jersey Bride ran on from behind to finish a suggestive third.

Veteran trainer Zareer Darashah trained Gran Turismo easily measured the opposition in the 1600 metres Chettinad Stud Trophy, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Amistad was the favourite to win especially as Noble Reward was withdrawn from the fray. Cash Is King and Veyron raced up front as Amistad was eased in about fourth position while Srinath chose to relax Gran Turismo along the rails a few lengths adrift. Rounding the final turn, Srinath brought Gran Turismo on the wide outside with a brisk effort and the progeny of Glory of Dancer quickened with minimum of fuss to go storming clear. Amistad rallied along the rails and put up a stiff fight but it was clear inside the final 100 metres that Gran Turismo was travelling the better of the two. Supreme necked out Veyron to take the third place.

Earlier in the day, the combination of Darashah and Srinath were successful on Blue Zone in the 1400 metres J H Foley Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Blue Zone shot ahead with a furlong left in the race and had to be driven out to contain the challenge of favourite Charming Knight. Queens Color was faraway third.

Chouhan had to ride vigorously to get favourite Aceempresjessie to stave off the spirited bid of Hackett to win the 1400 metres Mandakalli Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Manta Ray led from the start and battled on resolutely till the final furlong before weakening. The lower division of the race was won by rank outsider Real Potential who had the race sewn up long way from home. Always Remembering was a well beaten second. The race was held in pouring rain and poor visibility.

Chetan Kalay had a winner after a longish break when Jazzbythebay came from the back with a spirited run to sail past those in front to win the 1400 metres P Shanker Memorial Plate, a race for horses in the lowest class. Aero Star who led the charge had no answer when the lesser fancied runner swooped on her. Glorious Moment struggled to pick up speed and eventually managed to finish third at the expense of Femina.

Vishal Yadav`s Herculean went on a start to finish mission in the 1200 metres Nanital Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category, a race reserved for Mysore based horses and managed to stay there gamely and thwart the bid of favourite Magnetic Power. Windsor Park was third.
