Morning Miracle wins million by a whisker

By: Tippu Sultan   December 15 , 2014

Vittal Deshmukh trained Morning Miracle just about survived by a whisker to win the 1100 metres Juvenile Million, a rich terms race for two year olds, the feature event of races held at Malakpet on Monday. Favourites ruled the roost in majority of races.

Morning Miracle who had impressed in workouts went to the post as a strong favourite but he did not win the way the market trend indicated. Jockey Pradeep Chouhan had Morning Miracle dictate the pace from the word `go` and though he was strongly pressed by King Charles who came up with a powerful burst in the final furlong, the front runner had to be driven out to stave off his opponent by the proverbial whisker. Karromshade ran a good forward race when finishing a suggestive third.

The form of Satheesh trained Modern Sniper was imposing and it came as no surprise when the well backed three year old swept the others off their feet with aggressive front running tactics and won the 1200 metres Crown Treasure Plate, a Category II race. City of Dreams and Red Express advertised their readiness to strike early by occupying the next two slots.

Lesser fancied Mrinalini led all the way and did not face any opposition en roué to a resounding win in the 1100 metres Starry Scene Plate (Div I), a Category III race. Numinous just about managed to pip Parade Queen for the runner up berth. There was strong support for Rapidest and Clinching Evidence to win the lower division of the race. The latter jumped out awkwardly from the gates and raced in second position behind Rapidest for a furlong before pulling up in distress to eventually finish down the field. One is not sure what happened to the horse whose progress has been affected by tendon problem. With Clinching Evidence out of the way, Rapidest had no challenger nearby as the three year old checked in by a widening margin of seven lengths. Mount Titlis got the better of Flower of Temba to get the runner up berth.

Both the divisions of the Classic Style Plate, a Category II race, went the way of Laxman Singh trained horses. Policy Maker who was quoted at cramped odds steamrolled the opposition in the higher division of the race. A possible challenge from Exclusive Beauty failed to come off as the four year old filly went miles wide at the final turn and raced on the outer rail which effectively sealed whatever hopes she had. Nevertheless, she proved much better to the rest by beating the others by more than four lengths despite this hiccup. Coral Springs came in for solid support in the lower division of the race but there was noticeable support for the speedy Whats Up for those watching the flow of money in the ring to expect the race to help spice up things. Whats Up produced a striking run with a furlong left in the race and had the race sewn up long way from home even as favourite Coral Springs could get into rhythm, finding the scurry too sharp for comfort. Midnight In Paris rallied along the rails to finish third.

Red Ramble shaped like a winner in the 2200 metres Palampet Cup, a Category III race but was shocked by favourite Shades of Victory in the final stride of the race. Red Ramble had a useful lead going into the final furlong, with Shades of Victory having to cover a few lengths on the front runner. Shades of Victory responded well to the urgings of jockey Christopher, closed in with a rush and got the verdict in the bobbing of heads.

Anupam Sharma`s Sarvagnya, who is in tremendous form, duly accomplished a hat-trick with minimum of fuss in the 1400 metres Ballo Plate, a Category III race. Sarvagnya led from the start and skipped clear of the only challenger in sight, The Challenge to win with great deal of ease.

The biggest upset of the day came in the 1600 metres Solitaire Plate, a Category III race where Leo D`Silva trained Graceland came through with a strong challenge with a furlong left in the race and quickly established a winning lead. Thereafter it was a futile bid for Chocolate Solider who had to be satisfied with the second spot.
