Nuala upsets in Amba Vilas Palace Trophy

By: Stay Thirsty   July 27 , 2015

Dinesh Pujar trained Nuala brought off an upset in the 1200 metres Amba Vilas Palace Trophy, a race for horses rated 20 to 45, the only cup event of Monday`s Mysore races. The races scheduled for Tuesday have been cancelled as a mark of respect to former President of India A P J Abdul Kalam who passed away at Shillong on Monday while delivering a lecture at IIM. Racingpulse offers its heartfelt condolences to Kalam`s scores of admirers. Kalam was truly a people`s President.

Getafix, Teri Adah and Born For Beauty who had forward runs to their credit were fancied more than the rest in the feature event. Jockey A Imran Khan had Teri Adah lead all the way with Born for Beauty and Nuala in close proximity. Teri Adah led deep into the straight but closer home was overhauled by Nuala who got strong and won with a measure of comfort. Delilah ran on from behind to take the third spot ahead of Born For Beauty who took the turn slightly wide and did not produce any worthwhile effort.

Tejaswi trained Cinch was an expensive failure last time out and yet again was backed strongly to win the 1400 metres Kokkare Bellur Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 60 and above. Mr Carpe led the field with Lads Ability settled in second position ahead of Castle King and Cinch. Rounding the final turn, Lads Ability took charge and went sailing ahead. However, it was clear he was leading only on sufferance as Cinch who got a lovely opening along the rails came home to essay a strong challenge. After a brief duel with the front runner, Cinch shot ahead. Castle King picked up steam when the cause had been lost but his powerful burst helped him to go past Lads Ability and come tantalisingly close to the winner. From a handy third position, last start winner Dyna accelerated tremendously to leave the field stranded in the lower division of the race. Royal Shaan who did the front running till displaced from that position staved off the late bid of Anchal Beauty to save the runner up berth.

Vikram Apachu trained Go Man Go won over Bucethalis in a thrilling finish in the 1200 metres Bannur Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Flying Tricolour and Dark William were fighting it out approaching the final furlong but the complexion of the race changed when Go Man Go shot ahead in the middle of the track and then survived the late onslaught of Bucethalis to win by a whisker. Dark William edged out Flying Tricolour for the third place. Ranjeet Shinde trained Clever Trick shot into the lead from the start and kept on expanding the lead to over nine lengths in the straight to win the lower division of the race in great style. Ice Brown was second ahead of Happiness.

Naval Glory had controversially lost last time out. The horse changed stables after the last effort. Naval Glory was backed strongly to win the 1400 metres Nadir Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. The favourite obliged getting the better of Born For Success in the shadow of the post. Fantasy Living was third. Another Girinath ward Grace And Glory who had been strongly backed to win, produced a powerful burst of speed down the final furlong to win the lower division of the race with ease from late finishing Felix Legion and Come On Gingin.

Rakesh trained Perfectionist who was backed with conviction in the 1200 metres Sindhu Plate, a race for three year olds, duly obliged. After travelling a handy second into the straight after Western Fleet did the pace setting, Perfectionist took over the running at the top of the straight and stretched away from his rivals to win in great style. Invincible Wish who chased the eventual winner deep into the straight weakened close home and Country`s Charm displaced him from the runner up berth.

Trainer Girinath started the day on winning note when lesser fancied Caterina made a successful start to finish in the 1600 metres Serengeti Plate, a race for horses rated 0 to 25 and had no problem in keeping the challenge of late finishing Ayman at bay. Indian Hero was third while favourite Subadra was not spotted at the busy end.
