Shivalik Shine too good in Rattonsey Million

Malesh Narredu trained Shivalik Shine proved too good in the 1200 metres B K Rattonsey Memorial Maiden Multi-Million, a terms race for three year olds, one of the feature events of Indian Derby day races held on Sunday. The progeny of Shivalik Shine swept into the lead son after the rest and did not let anyone come to close to her enroute to an impressive win.

Bangalore challenger Lord Darlington was backed spiritedly to win the race on the basis of the run benefit that he had on the track as also the fact that he had shown improvement in his subsequent workouts. Shivalik Shine who had finished ahead of Lord Darlington when these two ran together, was next in demand at odds of over 3 to 1. Jockey Yash Narredu swiftly moved up on the second favourite from the wide outside draw to take over the running within the first furlong. The front runner proved too speedy for the rest and broke clear on straightening for home and had gone beyond the reach of the rest by the final furlong. Lord Darlington who went in chase of the front runner, showed his old tendency to run out and did not produce the kind of acceleration that was anticipated. Ladislaus and Safdar went past the post locked together and were head-heated for the second position. Lord Darlington was third another short head behind.
  
  


S S Shah trained Papakura brought off a stunning upset against the run of expectations in the 1200 metres Dr M A M Ramaswamy Sprint Million, a race for horses rated 80 and above. The race held in honour of India`s biggest race horse owner with 600 classic successes to his credit, had a modest field of nine runners in the fray. The race did not attract top sprinters because there is a Group race scheduled for next week and as such, top horses like Dancing Prances and others of his calibre were missing from the line-up despite good stake money. After a sluggish beginning, Mine Forever bolted to the front and held the lead till the final 100 metres. At this point, Papkura began to cover ground and swiftly overhauled the front runner and had no problem in winning from Ruler Downunder. Mine Forever weakened to finish fourth.

After successfully bringing off a big touch on hither to underperformed Ancient Glory on Saturday, trainer Mansoor Shah tried another such mission through Arsenal in the 1600 metres Kingfisher Ultra Mix Mile (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest class. Flashing Honour had the first run on his opponents. Though Arsenal put up a strong challenge, Sandesh was able to keep Flashing Honour ahead of Arsenal in what was a desperate fight for honours between the two market fancies. What went against Arsenal was the lack of a race run during the season while Flashing Honour was race fit in comparison. Sanam ran on to finish third. The well-bred Uncle Scrooge was backed to the exclusion of the rest in the lower division of the race. Uncle Scrooge took a long while to warm up but when he got into his rhythm, he swept past the field with amazing ease and won by a huge margin over JIbuti and Diablo.

Rehanullah Khan trained Highland Breeze won the 1600 metres Bright Outdoor Media Trophy, a race for maiden three year olds, with a late charge that took the progeny of Ace past Trombone who had shaped like a winner in the final furlong. Favourite Imitation Game was under pressure when the race came on the boil and failed to finish on the frame.

The 2400 metres Chetak Horse Racing Million, a race for horses rated 20 to 46, saw Rajendra trained Sabiq make amends for letting down as a favourite last time out. Sabiq however did not carry the burden of being a favourite this time. Sabiq came up with a late burst of speed and managed to overhaul Personify in the final moments of the race to land the spoils at big odds. Favourite She Is Special was not spotted at the business end of the race.

Shiraz Sunderji trained Harvey had everything going in her favour in the 1200 metres Ibja Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 66. For one, the main threat to him, Golden Belle was drawn the widest which hurt her chances completely. Harvey who shot into an unassailable lead in the final furlong was a facile winner of the race. Stand And Dance nosed out Eternal Royalty to gain the runner up berth. The lower division of the race was won by favourite The Champ who had no problem in keeping the challenge of gutsy fighter Wind Craft at bay.
