Jacqueline foals a filly in India

By: Our Correspondent   April 11 , 2016

Indian Derby winner Jacqueline who returned to India after being covered by Epsom Derby winner Australia in January this year, has foaled a filly at Nanoli Stud Farm on Sunday. Jacqueline was a multiple classic winner in India, having won four Indian classics including the Indian Derby in the hands of jockey Richard Hughes. Jacqueline was sent to Coolmore to be covered by champion sire Galileo. The first foal by Jacqueline named Primogeniture (by Glory of Dancer) raced in Ireland and won two races. Jacqueline had two more foals in Ireland, both by Galileo. The three-year-old Lord Napier is in training with John Gosden and another two-year colt which is yet to be named is also with the same trainer. The mare is owned by India`s leading owners Vijay Shirke, K N Dhunjibhoy and Berjis Desai.

Jacqueline returned to India in January this year after being covered by Australia as the owners preferred to race her progeny in India. Jacqueline (King Charlemagne – Talita Kumi (High Estate) caught the imagination of Indian race goers by winning the Gr 1 Indian 1000 Guineas, Gr 1 Indian 2000 Guineas, Gr 1 Indian Oaks and Gr 1 Indian Derby before losing in a tight finish to Becket in the Gr 1 Indian Turf Invitation Cup. She was immediately retired to stud farm and covered by India`s hugely successful stallion Glory of Dancer (Shareef Dancer) and sent to Coolmore to be covered by Galileo in her second season.

One of the successful racehorse mares owned by trainer S Padmanabhan namely Running Flame stood as a broodmare in Europe and produced a couple of winners. However, Running Flame was brought back to India when she was pregnant to Choisir. Running Flame`s first goal in India, Borsalino was a dual Derby winner having won the Gr 1 Kingfisher Bangalore Derby and Gr 1 Deccan Derby. Her best foal to date has been by Burden of Proof namely Desert God who won three Derbies in the last one year namely the Gr 1 Deccan Derby, Gr 1 Calcutta Derby, Gr 1 Indian Derby and Gr 1 Indian Turf Invitation Cup and is assured of the title of the Horse of the Year. It remains to be seen how Jacqueline`s foal performs in India especially after the heady success achieved by Running Flame whose foals did not do much in Europe but proved remarkable in classics in India.
