Sea Fairey obliges after two disappointing efforts

  August 19 , 2016

Suleiman Attaollahi trained Sea Fairey obliged expectations, barely managing to survive the late onslaught of Super Force to win the 1400 metres Independence Trophy, a race for horses rated 75 and above, the feature event of concluding day`s summer races on Friday. Arjun Mangalorkar won the Trainers` Championship Stakes for the first time with 26 winners while jockey John topped the table with 33 winners.

Since Sea Fairey had twice disappointed, the four-year-old filly was quoted at liberal odds despite enjoying market share in the ring along with Coldstream who was bidding for a hat-trick. The speedy Mickey Mouse set a fast clip with Royal Salute for company while Coldstream was in about third or fourth position ahead of Sea Fairey while Super Force was in the rear group. Rounding the final turn, Coldstream made his move to overhaul the front-running duo of Mickey Mouse and Royal Salute and it took a while for the former to get the better of Royal Salute. In the meanwhile, Suraj on Sea Fairey had his passage blocked along the inside and he swiftly changed course. The progeny of Multidimensional changed gears as it were and pounced on the battling horses in front to storm ahead inside the final 200 metres. Sea Fairey could not breathe easy as Super Force came home with a powerful burst of speed but ran out of ground and lost by a long neck. Coldstream stayed on take the third positon ahead of late rallying Force Ensign.

Dominic trained Justice Angel was backed to the exclusion of the rest in the Beautiful Babe Stakes, a race for horses rated 30 to 50. The odds crashed on Justice Angel despite the fact that the trainer`s had a dismal record with favourites. Last start runaway winner Antananarivo was quoted at liberal odds. John had Antananarivo dictate the pace from the start and enjoyed an uncontested lead which helped the progeny of Win Legend to record what turned out to be a comfortable win. Justice Angel who was in about the fourth position at the final turn, took a long time to warm up and by the time the filly could cover the leeway, the race was in the safe keeping of the front runner. Justice Angel barely managed to keep the runner-up berth from Blue Blazer by a mere neck.

Life Awaits had recoded an impressive win last time out and a repeat win was on cards for the four-year-old gelding from the stables of trainer Sriram Komandur. However, there was more money on Super Success and Downton Abbey to have a strong say the finish. Jockey Pradeep Chouhan had Life Awaits take charge from the word `go` and the progeny of Burden of Proof showed a clean pair of heels to his rivals and won easily from Downton Abbey whose best effort was not good enough to take her close to the front runner. Super Success took the third place ahead of Rakshitha who suffered from lack of an enterprising ride.

The day`s opener proved to be eventful. Gregory Sandhu trained Revelnation was strongly backed to win the Parsiana Stakes (Div III). He had the lead all the way in the final furlong with lesser fancied She Loves It essaying a strong challenge close home. The rest of the runners were far behind. Even as She Loves It was about to spice things up, jockey Lalit was unseated and this happened possibly a yard from the winning post. Revelnation won the race without any bother thanks to the misfortune of She Loves It. Had the jockey of She Loves It fallen at the post, the horse would have got the second place but since it happened a wee bit earlier, She Loves It did not figure among the finishers. There was an objection by trainer Lokanath against the result but the Stewards, after deliberations, upheld the positons as declared by the Judge. Wear The Sat was in third position seven lengths adrift of Rigelray.

Arjun Mangalorkar trained Talladega won the 1400 metres Dupont Trophy, a race for maiden three-year-olds. After chasing Tax Free into the straight, Talladega quickened for home and had a commanding lead by the time favourite Cape Cross warmed up to the task. The favourite could do no better than finish second for the third successive time. War Envoy was third while Super Smart was in the fourth position, more than five lengths adrift.

Irish Prince who was attempting to win for the third time in a row, each time over varying trips. He had an excellent chance of achieving the hat-trick but the horse bolted while being loaded in the Parsiana Stakes (Div I), a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Surprisingly, the saddle completely came off and the horse was withdrawn under the circumstances. The next best horse in the fray, Noble Sapphire won quite capably despite jockey Jagadeesh going wide to make his run in the homestretch. Noble Sapphire covered ground quickly and easily overtook Able Master who was shaping to cause an upset. Firing Line was third. The withdrawal of Shivalik Girl on veterinary grounds meant that Raw Gold was left with no worthwhile opposition to win the Division II of the race. After a hesitant start, Raw Gold improved places all the way and stormed ahead in the final furlong to win easily from Florencia and Jack of Hearts.

Sirajuddin trained Kings Kid who was one of the fancied runners to win the 1600 metres Belmont Park Stakes, a race for horses in the lowest class, asserted his supremacy in the final furlong. After Tick Tac Toe showed up prominently inside the final 200 metres, Kings Kid flashed on the scene with a strong effort and managed to surge ahead and win from Thalassa. Granada was third.

The concluding race of the season, the Good-Bye Stakes, a race for horses rated 15 to 35, was won by heavily backed Ramon whose odds came hurtling down from a higher quote of 7 to 1. Jockey Arshad Alam took Neymar to the front from the wide outside draw within the first furlong which in itself took considerable effort on the fancied runner. To make things worse, he went at a scorching speed as if he was running in a quarter mile race. The runaway tactics told on Neymar who slackened in the final furlong. Ramon covered ground quickly and had the race sewn up long way from home. Candice finished second with a late dash. Neymar weakened to finish third.
