Time For Fun scrapes home in Indian Navy Trophy

By: Tippu Sultan   November 27 , 2016

Satheesh trained Time For Fun survived a late onslaught from Vijay Viraaj by the skin of her teeth in the 1600 metres Indian Navy Challenge Rolling Challenge Trophy, a race for horses rated 86 and above, the feature event of races held on Sunday at Malakpet.

The race had an open look about it with more than three horses having a chance of landing the spoils. The list, however did not indicate Rio Rojo who had reeled off six wins in a row as the six-year-old mare was taking on higher class animals for the first time. Always Bullish did the job of a pace-setter and brought the field into the view. Time For Fun on the wide outside along with Vijay Viraaj made strong bids while Vijay Vaishnavee rallied along the rails. Time For Fun shot ahead with a furlong left in the race and held on bravely in the hands of jockey Rathore from Vijay Viraaj who was hard-ridden by Srinath but just about failed by a whisker. Vijay Vaishnavee was a close third. Woman O War who lost considerable ground at the start, improved places quickly but had nothing left in her at a crucial stage of the race and finished a tame fourth.

True Hymn made a bold move to win the 1100 metres Corden Rouge Plate (Div I), a race for maiden two-year-olds with a start to finish bid but in the final moments of the race was caught up by Juneau who made a brilliant rally to get a neck verdict in the end. Divine Silver was third ahead of the fancied Lucky Nicky who failed to find an extra gear in the straight to make a difference to the outcome of the race. Favourite Proud Prince was very troublesome at the gates and after several attempts to persuade him to enter the gates failed, he was withdrawn from the fray in the lower division of the race. Plain Jane and Top Link led in front till the final two furlongs before the latter skipped away to win by a comfortable margin of five lengths over Southern Crown. Lady Admiral was further three lengths away in third position.

Satyanarayana trained Exclusive Beauty chased Camborne well into the final furlong before surging ahead to win the 1200 metres King Rama Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 46 to 70. Rosemonde made a good rally in the final stages of the race to finish a close second. Camborne weakened to finish third after making all the front-running. Ananth Vatsalya trained Green Jewel who was well position to strike at the top of the straight, quickened well and established a good lead going into the final furlong which enabled the long shot to narrowly prevail over late-finishing Oathofyourdaughter to win the lower division of the race. Par Excellence was a close third.

White Gold was the strong public fancy in the 1600 metres Royal Tern Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 50. The favourite was taken on a start to finish mission by jockey Beuzelin Louis and stayed put there without coming under any serious threat from the rest of the runners. Perfection edged out Perfect Rose to get the runner-up berth.

Pentagon shaped to cause an upset in the 1400 metres Rainbows For Life Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 50, but in the dying moments of the race the complexion of the race metamorphized totally, three horses charging home with favourite City Colors getting the nod by a whisker over Batur and River Chimes. Pentagon was relegated to the fourth spot in a trice.

Vittal Deshmukh trained Coruba swamped the opposition in the 2000 metres Bhagyanagar Cup, a race for horses rated 26 to 50. Coruba shot ahead of the pack inside the final furlong and spurted away from the rest to win by nine lengths over Brilliant and Penumatcha`s Pride.

Lesser fancied Wonder Eye from Zoheb Shakh`s yards produced a powerful burst inside the final furlong and easily sailed past the front-running Shivalik Board to record a handsome win in the 1400 metres Sangam Plate, a race for horses rated 46 to 70. Green Image was second ahead of Delta Force who was never ideally positioned to have a realistic chance of winning.
