Trainer Anupam Sharma in the limelight

By: Tippu Sultan   February 12 , 2017

Donald Netto trained Dream Vision obliged expectations with great ease in the 1200 metres MCEME Rolling Trophy, a race for horses rated 46 to 70, the highest rated cup event of the races held at Malakpet on Sunday. Ravinder Singh trained Without Make Up maintained the winning form with yet another facile win. Trainer Anupam Sharma consolidated his position at the top by saddling four winners through Mangalyaan, Amazing Venus, Bharat King and Al Sadr.

Dream Vision looked ready to strike and this optimism was reflected in the market trend which saw the progeny of Mathematician being backed with conviction. Jockey Louis Bouzelin had Dream Vision in a handy position before unleashing the favourite with a powerful effort in the final furlong. Dream Vision had no problem in storming clear to win the race easily from Dream Girl, Bharat Queen and Ragas Ajalias who all finished in a cluster for minor berths.Donald Netto trained Dream Vision obliged expectations with great ease in the 1200 metres MCEME Rolling Trophy, a race for horses rated 46 to 70, the highest rated cup event of the races held at Malakpet on Sunday. Ravinder Singh`s Without Make Up had scored a dramatic win in her last outing and the quality of that win meant that she was ready for an encore. Apprentice jockey Singh Ajit Singh sat unperturbed in the rear group for the most part of the journey before bringing the filly into contention with a well-timed run in the final furlong. Without Makeup produced the patented burst of acceleration to collar the front-running horses to emerge an impressive winner. Big Flash was second ahead of Platinum who both had forward efforts.

The trainer of the day, Anupam Sharma, had extended the distance to be covered by Mangalyaan to a mile in the Grace And Strength Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 66 to 90. Mangalyaan raced in a handy position well into the straight behind Flower Roll Up. Mangalyaan assumed supremacy very soon in the straight and drew clear to win by a widening margin of five lengths over late finishing Morning Miracle. Flower Roll Up stayed on to take the third position by a whisker from Vista. Deshmukh trained Tiger held on with a determined effort to win the lower division of the race from favourite Western Wind. The latter closed the leeway with a powerful effort in the final furlong but Tiger who had led the march from the start, had enough cushion to last out to eke out a narrow win. O Ms Akilah was third.

Anupam Sharma also led in a long shot winner through Bharat King in the 1400 metres Amarnath Gupta Memorial Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 46 to 70. Dandy Girl shaped to cause an upset and had the lead till the closing stages of the race. A gutsy effort by Bharat King saw the long shot get the better of Dandy Girl in the closing strides of the race. Grand Canyon was third. Legend who came in for spirited betting failed to live up to expectations and was out of contention well before the race came on the boil as he failed to pick up speed at any stage of the race.

Apprentice jockey B R Kumar rode a fine race on Amazing Venus to guide the Anupam Sharma`s ward to a narrow win over late-finishing Prime Time in the 1200 metres Mossy Banks Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 26 to 50. Amazing Venus led from the start and the unhurried approach of Kumar who waited with the horse before going all out enabled the fancied runner to prevail in the end. Though Prime Time finished on strongly, Kumar had ensured that Amazing Venus had enough legs to last out by his tactical acumen.

In one of the most absorbing finishes of the day, Raajneeti prevailed over favourite Lost And Found, Supremo and Somerset in the Red Rufus Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. Supremo held the lead till the final moments of the race with three other horses charging home with menacing strides. Raajneeti put her head in front even as the winning post was sighted with Lost And Found lunging with a powerful effort followed by Surpemo and Somerset who spiced things up with a late dash. However, Raajneeti prevailed by a neck.

In an exciting finish, Anupam Sharma trained Al Sadr managed to get the nod by a whisker over Valee Tiger in the 1800 metres Republic Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 50. Valee Tiger led from the start and interestingly Al Sadr was at the wrong end of the field. Al Sadr improved places swiftly in the straight and essayed a strong challenge to the front-runner with a furlong left in the race. The duo battled all the way in the final furlong. Jockey Mukesh Kumar was successful in the end on Al Sadr as the bobbing of heads at the finish went in favour of the lesser fancied runner. Vijays Splendour grabbed the third place from Pentagon.

Prasad Raju trained Sensational Girl measured the front-running Buckshee in the final furlong and won the 1400 metres Royal Prince Plate, a race for horses rated up to 30. Buckshee, in her customary front-running style had a good lead from the start but could not cope with the pressure applied by Sensational Girl and surrendered tamely under pressure. Green Olive gave good returns on place betting.
