Drops Of Jupiter, Taygetus hog the limelight

By: Goldie Boy   March 22 , 2017

Trainer Vijay Singh`s vastly improved filly, Drops Of Jupiter (Neeraj Rawal-up) scored yet again, her fifth win of the season as she took the measure of her seven rivals, in Wednesday`s feature, the 1,200m Bangalore Turf Club Cup, for horses in the higher classes. The afternoon also witnessed another scintillating performance by another young galloper named Taygetus (Christorpher Alford) – from Arti Doctor`s stable --, who, too, reeled of his fifth win, albeit in a row, and in the most convincing manner while claiming the 1,400m Tangaroa Handicap.

Drops Of Jupiter would also have had an unbeaten record, had she not been badly pocketed for galloping room, in the home stretch, after making it three in a row. Never mind about it, the Rebuttal daughter is still in the reckoning for the ‘horse of the season` title with Taygetus.

Drops Of Jupiter, a 9/2 chance in the betting, was ridden to her strength, off the pace, before being sent into to lead, 150m from home, in a fast run race, thanks to Gentle Knowledge who made most of the running. The filly, however, faced stiff resistance in the closing stages of the race as Setaflame (Munna Alam) was brought with an electrifying run from almost a similar position, albeit late in the final 200 metres of the race.

Taygetus, on the other hand, allowed Vijay Romantic Magic (Shailesh Shinde) to call the shots till turning for home before he went skating past the leader, with Alford having very little to do in the saddle. It may not come as a surprise if Arti decides to run the Arabian Gulf Son again before the season ends on April 6.

Trainer Bharath Singh`s baby Arya`s Pet (Dashrath Singh), fully justified her last victory, over Hartnell and Pothus, on her way to winning the 1,200m Noble View Plate. The Express Wish daughter proved too good for trainer Javed Khan`s youngster, Raqs Sarqui (A. Sandesh), a 16/10 joint favourite with the winner. In the same race, trainer Jasbir Singh`s Aileen (apprentice Ranidan Singh), who placed third, made most of the running; until Arya`s Pet and Rasq Sarqui made serious bids.

Trainer Vikash Jaiswal, as usual, was a spoil sport with his two rank-outsiders, sending pool hunters for a toss. Starting off with the victory of Secret Builder (Imran Chisty) in 1,600m Philanthropist Handicap, which the 8/1 chance won from Bharath`s Sam Houston (Dashrath) and Robert Gowli`s Arion (Mudassar Nazar) – also long shots.

Secret Builder was ridden well off the race before pouncing on the tiring leaders. In the same race Daniel David`s 7/2 chance, Admantium (Ashhad Asbar) left all his chances at the gates, leaving Sam Houston, McCartny and Zuvran to make most of the running.

Vikash`s another long knife, Sporting Trainer (Sandeep Rajput), as if fitted with jets, led by three lengths from the start and went on increasing the lead as the race progressed, to thrash his seven rivals by about as many lengths.

Apprentice Ranidan, too, was among winners, guiding two less fancied runners – trainers Rutherford Alford`s Cacharel and Shafiq Khan`s Bang Bang – to victory in their respective events, the lower division of the 1,100m Adulation Handicap and 1,600m Fiddler Handicap. Both horses were taken to start-to-finish missions and there is hardly anything to write home about their performance.

The upper division of the 1,100m Adulation Handicap was claimed by trainer Daniel David`s Land Of Glory (Hindu Singh) who almost made it a pillar-to-post affair to provide the schooler his solitary win of the season.
