Noverro leads Bharath Singh’s priced treble

By: Goldie Boy   July 19 , 2017

Noverro, ridden by the in-form jockey Neeraj Rawal, advertised his fitness, on his way to winning the 1,100m A.Q. Qidwai Memorial Cup, Wednesday`s feature event.

Noverro was one of the three priced winners saddled by Bharath, in the seven-event card as Neeraj booted home a double, and so did jockey Christopher Alford and trainer Arti Doctor. Bharath`s other winners were Shohin and Sangfroid – both babies.

Noverro was ridden in a check behind the speedy pair of Anastasia (Shezad Khan) and Zander (A. Imran Khan) who burnt themselves out nearing the distance-post, and thus setting stage for the victory of the 3/1 chance in the betting.

All eyes were on Bharath`s Arya`s Pet, a 7/4 favourite, also ridden by Neeraj in the 1,200m Andrada Handicap. However, the winner of the sprint turned to be the last winter`s Alokananda Stakes winner, Sangfroid, the stable-mate of Arya`s Pet who was given a peach of a ride by Alford to make the victory look that much easier.

However, sources close to the stable, said that the favourite had been feeling the heat, and was dry-coated in patches after the winter season. The monsoons showers have brought about some relief to Arya`s Pet who`s this run needs to be ignored.

Trainer Javed Khan`s Gloaming was another favourite who performed much below expectations in the baby race – the 1,100m Stay In Shape Plate. The Revel colt was never in the race while Monaco (apprentice Vikram) and Mocha Loca Hindu Singh) dominated the first half of the race. Bharath`s Shohin (Neeraj), who raced close behind the leaders put in a strong run on the wide out to retire an easy winner as Arti`s Mocha Loca hung on to the second slot to invite attention.

Vijay`s stable, too started on a disappointing note as the champion trainer`s prime favourite, Aragon (A.Imran Khan), performed below par, in the 1.400m Allaying Handicap. The race was won by Arti`s Artificial (app. R.S. Bhati) who held back the 6/1 chance behind Vikash Jaiswal`s speedster, One Man Army (Sandeep Rajput), till about 150m from home. Pushing his charge relentlessly on the wide out, Bhati got rewarded with an easy victory.

Arti`s Shybelle (C. Alford), too, recorded an easy victory over an equally fancied pair of Tibidabo (Akash Rajput) and Bacardi (A. Imran Khan), in the Star Precision Handicap. Alford rode a copybook race, holding back the 4/1 fancied runner, behind the long time leaders, Vijay`s Mustang (Hindu Singh) and Javed`s Bacaardi (A. Imran) till past the distance post, before making it a no-contest.

Vijay`s Jump And Run (Shailesh Shinde) was the easiest of all winners on the day. The 4/1 chance bagged the 1,200m Picture Perfect Handicap after allowing Patrick Quinn`s So Regal (App. Vikram) to match strides; till about the distance post.

The curtain raiser, the Aladance Handicap was an easy pick for Simply Royale (H.G. Rathod); from the rookie trainer Aashay Doctor`s stable. The winner, literally, dragged his jockey to the winning-post, having galloped six-wide throughout the journey.
