Prospero bounces back to win feature

By: Tippu Sultan   July 21 , 2017

Srinivas Reddy trained Prospero bounced back to score a facile win after a blank season in winter in the 1400 metres S S Cardmaster Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 42 to 62, the feature event of Friday`s Hyderabad races. Hilton Sequeira trained Ambitious Approach was the most impressive of the day. The trainer also had Ans Ans Ans, originally hailed as a classic prospect, end a winless drought.

Prospero had shown signs of returning to old form as evidenced by her preparatory workouts which indicated that all was well with her. This was also reflected in the support she received in the betting ring. Jockey Umesh quickly had Prospero take over the running from the start. The progeny of Burden of Proof enjoyed an uncontested lead in front and with no horse within her shadow all through the race, she emerged a confident and comfortable winner after 355 days. Sea Castle ran on with a purpose to edge past Top Contender for the runner-up berth.

Donald Netto trained Legacy Machine was always a rousing performer whenever the connections wished him to perform to his potential. Legacy Machine has been trained by different persons in his career. Legacy Machine was well fancied though the weight of money was carried by Delta Force. Legacy Machine showed lot of speed to go to the front from the beginning and then skipped beyond the reach of the rest. Delta Force who had considerable leeway to cover could do no better than finish second, a few lengths adrift of the winner. Eternal Gift was third and her turn could come soon during the season.

Ambitious Approach had reeled off two back-to-back wins during the winter season and the four-year-old gelding who is owned by former Karnataka Cricket Captain A V Jayaprakash and his partners, was backed to strong favouritism in the 1200 metres Agostini Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Jockey Aneel had Ambitious Approach race in a handy fourth position before improving places in the straight for a decisive surge. Ambitious Approach quickened brilliantly to leave the field stranded. Big Flash showed some vigour while snatching the runner-up berth from Amazing Venus in the final moments of the race. Sequeira had another winner through Ans Ans Ans in the lower division of the race who showed winning form after 327 days. The temperamental filly had lost her way during her sojourn in Bangalore where she had injured herself before she could run in a juvenile million. She had shown lot of transformation in the workouts and though she was troublesome before being loaded, she was focussed during the race. The race saw Pentagon, Charming Beauty and Silver Dollar being declared non-starters before the start. After a sluggish beginning, Ans Ans Ans made leisurely improvement before showing up on the wide outside in the straight. Ans Ans Ans readily responded to the urgings of apprentice jockey Kaushik and drew clear of the rest in the final furlong to record an easy win over Royal Dynamite and Pixie Girl.

Arjun Anne trained Destined Dynamite returned huge dividends in the 1200 metres Nizamabad Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. The fancied Seven Eleven and Et Voici failed to impress. Destined Dynamite flew on the wide outside to measure Air Strike in the closing strides of the race. Seven Eleven saved place money.

Satyanarayana trained Indian Dreams who was running after 515 days was made the firm favourite on the basis of excellent preparatory workouts for the 1100 metres Fond Hope Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. Palisades Park had the form to have been considered seriously but the progeny of Phoenix Tower ran at lucrative odds. Apprentice jockey Md Ismail had Palisades Park take over the running within the first furlong and the lesser fancied runner stayed put in that position to emerge a comfortable winner. Gorgeous Lady tried hard but found the winner too strong. Indian Dreams rallied late and could only finish third. He should be better off for this lung-opener. Vittal Deshmukh trained Samba showed out in the paddock parade but it was King David who received maximum support to win the lower division of the race. Samba made a good rally from about the fifth or sixth position at the final turn and responded readily to the command of jockey Hannam and won quite capably. Composure who was always in front, put up a strong fight but went down in the hand. Supurinto spoiled her chances while going miles wide in the straight but nevertheless was a close third.

Shezad Abbas trained Sir Legend was well supported to win the Ramappa Plate (Div III), a race for horses rated up to 30. Sir Legend produced a strong effort in the final furlong to get past the front-running favourite Moon Walker to record a facile win. Ice Crystal rallied well in the end to neck out Moon Walker to claim the second pace.
