Pesi Shroff trained Temerity prevailed over B Fifty Two in a sensational finish in the Gr 3 A C Ardeshir Trophy, a terms race for three-year-olds and over, the feature event of the seven event race card that was gone through on Sunday. The Indian Turf Invitation Cup winner who had performed way below par in her last essay at Pune, bounced back over a more suitable trip by just about getting up in nick of time to nose out B Fifty Two in a desperately close finish. Jockey Neeraj Rawal was at his persevering his best to get his horse to snatch a last stride win.

The feature event had an open look about it if only because of Temerity`s poor performance in her last effort at Pune. As a result, Aster Rose who had recorded back to back wins at Pune and Phoenix Tiger also were in serious betting. B Fifty Two who aggressively in front followed by Temerity and the rest. B Fifty Two ran on resolutely in front and held the initiative going into the final furlong. Phenix Tiger was the first horse beat when the race came on the boil and possibly his physical niggles played up. Aster Rose who was more than five lengths adrift of the front-runner had some leeway to cover. Jockey Imran Khan drove out B Fifty Two to desperately cling on to the lead even as Neeraj Rawal put all the resources at his command to get Temerity to stretch out. B Fifty Two and Temerity went past the post locked together and it was difficult to pick who the winner was. The photo-finish camera indicated that Temerity had prevailed by one hundredth of a second. The judge could announce the result only because of the modern-day photo finish cameras which gives out the timings of the horses by the minutest of fractions. Aster Rose made a good rally in the final furlong, but it was not enough to overhaul the battling duo in front and the filly had to settle for the third place. New England who was attempting a quantum jump, was fourth.

Rajendra trained King of Killen pulled off a dramatic win over favourite Angels Touch in the 1200 metres Rhapsidion Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. King of Killen chased Smokey Rose into the straight before surging ahead. Angels Touch who came in for one-sided betting in the ring essayed a strong challenge and surged marginally ahead in the final furlong. However, King of Killen fought back and wrested the initiative close home even as Angels Touch drifted out under pressure. King of Killen went on to win by a shade less than a length. Masquerade who was also in serious betting covered lot of ground in the end to finish a close third.

Pesi Shroff`s classic hopeful Zenon won the 2000 metres Pillar To Post Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 66. After owner-mate Nelsons Blood did the helpful job of setting the pace and leading the field into the straight, Zenon cruised past the front-runner and sped away for an effortless win over Glorious Eyes. Eiger`s Tiger was third. Flashing Honour who tried to throw a challenge at the favourite by moving briskly around the bend, ran out of steam and finished last.

Lesser fancied Mine That Bird pulled off an exciting win over 1000 metres Nectar Queen Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. Favourite Star of Thea who had the first run on his opponents had to face a stiff challenge from Priceless Art all the way in the straight with Mine That Bird also closing up in the middle of these two horses. Closer home, it looked as though Priceless Art could prevail in the end but Mine That Bird surprised everyone with a zestful finish which saw him clinch the race by a head. Star of Thea weakened to finish with Outstanding being a suggestive fourth.

Noshir Cama trained Gazino had performed below expectations on the last occasion and since people in the known were aware of the reason for the poor show, backed the progeny of Surfrider to break the winning sequence of Yanna Rascala. Star Councilor led the field into the straight and was easily overhauled by Gazino who was in chase of the pace-setter. Gazino cruised away to a commanding lead and by the time Yanna Rascala warmed up to the task, the race was well sewn up the well backed runner. Yanna Rascala covered lot of ground to finish second ahead of Turf Dancer.

Shazaan Shah trained Happy Birthday recorded a smashing win in the 1800 metres Aristos Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Silver Edge attempted runaway tactics and had a break of more than five lengths over the rest with two furlongs left in the race when Happy Birthday made his move form about the fifth or sixth position. Happy Devoured ground and had no problem in getting past the front-runner and win by a widening margin of three lengths. Dazzling Eyes was third while favourite Star Scholar was not spotted.

S S Shah trained Albareto was backed to the exclusion of the rest in the 1200 metres Jehangir P Dubash Trophy, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Sereno was also backed to record an encore. Though Albareto shot ahead in the final furlong and shaped to win easily, the win was not achieved in the manner the betting trend indicated. Albareto had to stave off the late flourish of Gloriana. Time of My Life was third. Sereno finished down the field.
