Tough Enough does the trick again

By: Goldie Boy   March 20 , 2018

Trainer Javed Khan`s six-year-old horse, Tough Enough (C.S. Jodha), once again, unleashed an amazing acceleration to beat a good number of his younger rivals in the 1,100m Lombard Handicap, Tuesday`s main event. The afternoon also witnessed another visiting jockey, Dashrath Singh, taking full advantage of chance rides coming his way, after the fellow-rider, Suraj Narredu, failed to make it to city, in view of suffering minor injuries, in Bangalore, during the morning workouts. Dashrath Scored a popular double.

Jodha rode a copy-book race on Tough Enough, a 7/1 shot. Held back with the tail-enders till the final turn, and zigzagged his way to an impressive victory over another quietly fancied runner, Sparkling Eyes (Shezad Khan), also a western India migrant who had performed badly in her maiden start, about six-weeks ago.

Three of the six-events, including the two claimed by Dashrath, were start-to-finish affairs. Dashrath made a short-work of the opposition, in the baby race, the 1,100m Fizz Plate, atop Vijay Singh`s filly, Cadillac, who scored in her successive starts. The Diffident/Classic Sky daughter was an even-money favourite but was expected to be troubled by trainer Arti Doctor`s first timer, San Remo (Trevor Patel), and Javed`s Stelvio Pass. However, the last named lost all his chances at the gates while San Remo ran short of gas after raising hopes of some excitement at the finish.

Trainer Vikash Jaiswal`s, Dancing Prince, hardly gave any anxious moments to his hoards of backer on his way to winning the 1,200m Black Buck Handicap. The 7/4 favourite was expected to face some competition from Arti`s Prancing Queen (Trevor) but the grey filly was no match for the winner who had won his recent start with an equal ease.

Trainer Manvendra Singh`s heavily backed six-year-old Prince Of Heart (Hindu Singh) also followed the day`s trend – the pillar-to-post -- to land 1,400m Kempion Handicap. It was a bloodless victory for the Dancing Forever son as none of his six rivals in the field looked to be very keen to upset the winner`s apple-cart.

Such things, nevertheless, are common in the country`s turf circuits towards the fag-end of the season as most in the opposition carry some niggles and the fittest one survives.

The day`s opener, the 1,100m Record Reign Handicap and the concluding event, the 1,400m Saloon Handicap, therefore, were no exceptions. Trainer Harvinder Singh`s long shot, Miss Willy Nilly (app. R.S. Bhati) took opposition by a surprise in the curtain raiser while the over-raced fancied runners like Hurricane Strom (Trevor), Zara Go Zara (Vinay Jaiswal) struggled.

The last race was claimed by trainer James McKeown`s Rising From Ashes (B. Mahesh), 5/1 shot. The victory of Win Legend son was, in fact, on the cards. In his last outing as a 5/4 favorite, Rising From Ashes had unseated Mahesh, when all poised to score.
