My Opinion swamps field in Governor`s Cup

By: Tippu Sultan   August 12 , 2018

B Suresh trained My Opinion swamped the opposition with ridiculous ease in the 1600 metres Governor`s Cup, a race for horses rated 74 and above, the feature event of Monday`s Hyderabad races. The Chennai challenger went to the post as a favourite and though the three-year-old cut an erratic course, drifting almost to the outer rail, he was strong enough to win by a margin of over three lengths.

Moon Dancer who was running over a mile for the first time did his customary front-running and led deep into the straight. However, he ran out of his reserves approaching the final furlong as he came under immense pressure from Exclusive Wind and Golconda Derby winner Mahateji. Even as these three were battling out, My Opinion showed up on the wide outside with a powerful surge which easily took the three-year-old colt past the battling trio. My Opinion won as he pleased and it was a good reward for trainer Suresh who has begun to venture out of the comfort zone of his home centre. His ward had won a graded race at Bangalore during the summer season as well. Mahateji was second followed by Exclusive Wind while Like Wise who lost ground at the start, finished ahead of Moon Dancer. Though Moon Dancer appears bred to stay, his best performance thus far has come only over a sprint.

Suraj Narredu who was returning to the saddle after being sidelined by an injury, had a rewarding day, booting home two winners. He had it easy on favourite as Proclamation gave him an armchair ride to victory in the 1400 metres Kalamaris Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Suraj had Proclamation track runaway leader Eka`s into the straight before asking the favourite to get into the act. Proclamation easily collared the front-runner and stretched away from the field to record an impressive win. Solar Heights ran on from behind to get past Eka`s to get the runner-up berth.

Mir Faiyaz Ali Khan trained Scooby Dooby Do had the benefit of a good forward run and this reflected in the easy win recorded by the five-year-old gelding in the 1200 metres Wanaparthy Cup, a race for horses rated 42 to 62. Suraj brought Scooby Dooby Do with the patented late burst of speed and the progeny of Rau Maudit had no problem in asserting his supremacy in the final furlong to win easily from Mighty Swing. Humaaghar displaced runaway leader Platinum from the third position.

In what appeared an open affair, Vittal Deshmukh trained long shot Evon Van Brando easily won the 1200 metres Noble Quest Plate (Div I), a race for maiden three-year-olds. Soon after the start, Evon Van Brando was shuffled back to the penultimate position as Secretary did the job of pace-setting. Jockey Robert Hannam brought Evon Van Brando into contention on the wide outside after taking the turn wide. The progeny of Net Whizz gathered tremendous momentum and covered the leeway swiftly and drew clear in the final furlong for a comprehensive win. Shilo held off Naucratis to get the runner-up berth. Favourite That`s My Magic was a tame fourth. Shezad Abbas trained Kingswood came home with a powerful dash from way off the pace and easily collared the front-running favourite Amazing Script who was under pressure to keep the lead in the lower division of the race. In a cluster finish, City of Ayaansh finished second ahead of Once More.

Vittal Deshmukh trained Golden Fortune was the shortest priced horse of the day and the favourite had no problem in overwhelming the opposition in the 1600 metres Nizam Sagar Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Hannam kept Golden Fortune a handy second as Vijays Harmony set the pace. The moment Golden Fortune was asked to quicken, the favourite did so with ease to win by a margin of five lengths. Guiding Force and Kohinoor Legend occupied the next two slots.

Halo`s Princess who attempted start to finish tactics in the 1600 metres Best of Bold Plate, a race for horses rated up to 25, shaped to win but closer home was strongly challenged by Cannon Fury who covered up the enormous leeway in tremendous fashion and overhauled the front-runner in the final strides of the race to land the spoils at lucrative odds for trainer Prasad Raju. Royal Dancer nosed out Tough Sussex to grab the second position.
