Flying Show wins Dasara Sprint Championship

  October 4 , 2018

M Bobby trained Flying Show pulled off a surprise win in the Gr 3 Country Stud Farm Mysore Dasara Sprint Championship, a terms race for three-year-olds and over, the feature event of Thursday`s Mysore races. The fancied runners from Bangalore put up disappointing performances and their show only served to highlight the fact that they are rapidly on their decline.

For apprentice jockey Darshan who has been enjoying a dream season, he could not have asked for a better win to emerge as a full jockey by winning the 40th race of his career which was a graded race.

Tutankhamun and Accolade commanded some betting in the ring though without the confidence that these horses would have inspired in their prime. The betting was tentative though no one had bargained for the Mysore based horse to have a bold show. Darshan took Flying Show on a start to finish mission and the horse stayed put there till the end. Accolade who was shifted to the rails in the final furlong to get a clear run saw the gap closing but was angled out to make his challenge to the front-runner. Though the latter finished with a rush, Flying Show had enough cushion to sail past the post unscathed. Big Heart who was hovering in about the third position retained the spot while Tutankhamun ran way below par when finishing fourth. The horse seems to have lost his zest.

Hyderabad`s most successful jockey of the year Akshay Kumar drove out Gregory Sandhu trained Admiral Hatsu to a facile win in the 1600 metres W T Craig Jones Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above. St Pauli Girl led all the way with Admiral Hatsu in close proximity. Inside the final furlong, St Pauli Girl was under pressure to retain the lead and eventually surrendered to Admiral Hatsu who asserted his supremacy close home. The Lieutenant ran on to take the third position. Pinyada made no show.

Michael Eshwer trained Lion who was making his debut in the 1200 metres Urs Kar Trophy, a race for horses rated 20 to 45, justified the market expectations with a start to finish victory in the hands of jockey Trevor Patel. Coorg Regiment who had good form to go by was in earnest chase but found the front-runner slipping away in the final 100 metres. Top Striker who came in for significant support, was flat-footed and finished a tame third.

Pradeep Annaiah trained Buscadero was lucky to prevail in the 1600 metres Nyveli Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Buscadero had the lead going into the final furlong but began to veer out under pressure. Jockey Dhannu Singh Deora managed to correct the drift though he could not be forceful in his finish. Luckily for him, Momotaro who had shot ahead along the rails faltered in the final moments of the race and Buscadero could eke out a short head victory. Mystic Music was third.

R V Manohar trained Kasauli came into strong prominence in the final furlong and shot ahead to win the 1100 metres Triveni Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest class. Stars In His Eyes ran on late to edge past longtime leader Breaking Away to get the runner-up berth. Nataraj trained Secret Touch produced a strong run down the final furlong to measure long time leader Tudor Prince and then stave off the late bid of Master of War to win the lower division of the race.
