Aeisir pulls off a thrilling win in the feature

  March 8 , 2019

Pradeep Annaiah trained Aeisir pulled off a thrilling win over Noah`s Ark in the 1200 metres Madras Race Club Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Friday`s Bangalore races. Louisiana who was heavily supported to have a bold show steadily lost touch with the front-runners and eventually finished a dismal last. The favourite reportedly burst his blood vessels.

Louisiana`s last run was impressive, and the expectation was that the five-year-old would convert that forward run into a winning one as the company he was taking on was not a strong one. Noah`s Ark slipped in along the rails to take charge from pace-setting Side Winder inside the final furlong. Noah`s Ark had a useful lead but last start winner Aeisir who finished with a rush in the hands of jockey Pradeep Chouhan managed to get the better of the front-runner in the waning yards of the race. Rum Runner ran on to finish third.

There were two last-minute withdrawals in the 1200 metres Zenyatta Stakes, a terms race for maiden three-year-olds. Both these horses belonged to trainer Padmanabhan. Full sister to Sir Cecil, Lady of Fame was making her debut along with another strong fancy in the race Well Connected. The withdrawal was following a flash strike by the syces of the stable. Asked about the turn of events, trainer Padmanabhan said: ``The syces went on a flash strike due to the provocation from the Stable Welfare Society because of their personal issues with me.`` The Stable Welfare Society has been entrusted with the job of handling the distribution of salaries for the syces. It is a pity that the Society formed to provide service to the trainers` fraternity should be engaged in a confrontation with the trainer on a matter that could be sorted without bringing the egos into play. The race was won by favourite Electra from the stables of trainer Neil Darashah. The progeny of Corporate Jungle was quoted at cramped odds following the withdrawal of Well Connected. However, Electra did not win the way the market trend suggested. She had to be driven out to contain the challenge of Mega Ikon. Winnall was third.

Neil Darashah had a treble for the day. Ninon was well supported to win the 1600 metres Icebreaker Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Extremelydangerous led the field into the stretch and Ninon who was in striking position, quickly assumed command in the straight to storm clear to win by a widening margin of five lengths. Limato took the second position ahead of Noble Splendour.

The win number three for Neil Darashah came in the lower division of the 1200 metres Nethravathi Trophy, a race for horses rated 1 to 35. Arjun Mangalorkar trained Chula Vista was widely believed to be the horse to win the race, but the favourite faltered after showing up inside the final 300 metres. Tico Rico who moved up from behind with raking strides stormed away for an easy win over Touch Your Destiny and Hunters Moon. Chula Vista faded out to be a tame fourth. The upper division of the race appeared to be at the mercy of Arjun Mangalorkar trained Armin and the favourite won without much fuss. Prince Azeem was second while there was a cluster finish for the third place with Another Rainbow saving place money.

Irfan Ghatala trained Shesmyscript was driven out a facile win by jockey David Allan in the 1600 metres Bhagamandala Plate, a race for horses rated 45 to 65. After Good Time Indeed led the field into the straight, Multifaceted cruised into the lead inside the final 300 metres. David Allan worked his way from the rear group to bring Shesmyscript with a spirited run on the wide outside. The progeny of Watchmyscript responded well to the urgings and produced a powerful gallop which took her sailing clear of the rest for a win by a widening margin of three lengths over Australis. Multifaceted weakened to finish third.

Prithviraj trained Secretsuperstar edged out last start winner Baymax close home to win the 1200 metres Dashmesh Stud Plate, a race for horses rated30 to 50. Both these horses burst clear of the pack in the final furlong with Secretsuperstar getting the better of Baymax in the hands of apprentice jockey Manish. Sahara was third. Wings of Desire who was well backed to oblige was never in the hunt.

Jockey Suraj Narredu on Masada engaged favourite Nitromax in a bitter battle for supremacy in the 1600 metres Hassan Plate, a race for horses rated 30 to 50. Suraj was able to outride Trevor who was on Nitromax who surrendered the lead in the closing moments of the race. Idealist ran on to take the third position.

In the day`s opener, the 1200 metres Honnavar Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category, Appu trained Jersey Storm was the favourite but the horse got stranded in the gates and lost all his chances. Irfan Ghatala`s Savisa fought out with Tiger Returns and managed to prevail by a head in the end. Suraj Narredu was astride the winner. Attaboy nosed out Perfect Prince to save place money.
