Tenno Sho beats opposition hollow in Colts Trial

By: Goldie Boy   September 10 , 2019

Tenno Sho, from trainer Neil Darashah`s stable, fully justified reasons for being a final entry, as the 11/2 shot thrashed the opposition to bag the 1,400m Calcutta Colts Trial Stakes on Tuesday. Trevor Patel partnered the Phoenix Tower son to a shade under three-length victory over Trafalgar, the 18/10 firm-favourite, the local hope. The afternoon was otherwise ruled by the celebrated pair of trainer Vijay Singh and jockey Suraj Narredu who combined to notch-up a treble apiece.

Speedster like Gaurish (Nikhil Naidu), Script (C. S. Jodha), Across The Sea (C. Alford) and Gallantry (Yash Narredu) made most of the running till the field turned for home when Trevor decided to position Tenno Sho, right behind the favourite, in the fifth berth.

Trafalgar was quick to make his move on the wide out, 300m from home, and so did Tenno Sho. However, the favourite`s brush with the lead was a short-lived affair when Tenno Sho changed the gear.

Trafalgar was expected to produce a better performance but a near 10 week of lay off may have made the champion horse a bit of rusty.
Early in the afternoon, Trevor also had a an armchair ride on the Arti Doctor even-money favourite, Shimmering Star in the 1,100m Free Energy Handicap that the Strong Suit son won, from the start and the way he liked, to complete a hattrick of wins Goddess of luck, finally, smiled on trainer Bharath Singh.

The trainer has been going through a bad patch but his 9/4 favourite, Fancourt (app Sujit Paswan) won the Setaflame Handicap, albeit just about, from Harvinder Bath`s Demonstrate (app Aditya Jaiswal) after a prolonged close contest.

In the same race, the paddock looks of another hattrick aspirant, The Last Judgment (Y.S. Srinath) were hardly inspiring and the Vikash Jaiswal ward rightly failed to find a berth in the top order of the board. The horse definitely needs some rest now.

It was Vijay-Suraj`s juggernaut that started rolling on from the third race onwards. The pair made short work of the opposition by adopting pillar-to-post tactics. The 11/10 favourite After Shock, in the 1,400m Slade Valley Handicap, and Aashna, a 11/4 strongly fancied runner, in the concluding event, the 1,400m Argiano Handicap, delivered the goods with virtual ease.

It will be, however, an under-statement to say that Multitude also came good for the champion pair in 1,400m Stewards` Cup. The seven-year-old, Multitude, simply treated his three rivals with utmost disregards, scoring the easiest of his three wins recorded during the season.

The early pace was cut by two classy sprinters – Amorous White (Trevor) and Castlebridge (Naidu) was definitely very fast, leaving Big Orange (Srinath), the main challenger of Multitude, in a great distress.
