Amorous White records a courageous win

By: Goldie Boy   October 9 , 2019

Amorous White`s thrilling Victory over Perpetual Winning, on a wet Wednesday`s track, somewhat sorted out many a contests fought on the other ‘tables` – professional championships. The winner, a 4/1 chance in the betting, kept hopes of his trainer, Vikash Jaiswal`s alive to grab the first runner-up slot behind the virtual winner, Vijay Singh, who is already in the comfort zone. The victory of Amorous White was equally important for apprentice jockey Sujit Kumar Paswan who has been fighting a grim battle to beat the rest to claim the third berth behind his seniors – Suraj Narredu and Nikhil Naidu. The Jaiswal-Paswan stuck again and as the day progressed and at the day`s end things looked rosy for the two, with one more race meeting to go.

Suraj, on the other hand, had to start afresh, on Wednesday, after being tied up with Naidu at 14 winners apiece. The champion jockey was, in a hurry as he posted back-to-back big wins at the start of the day`s programme; which was delayed by half-an-hour as skies opened up and the light started fading.

Followers of Amorous White counted upon the five-year-old`s front-running strength to their advantage, notwithstanding a heavy impost of 62-1/2kg on his back. Amorous White did not disappoint his backers but he did bring his followers to edges of their seats as he shifted out in the final 250m of the race. Paswan`s also delayed the process of taking remedial measures – switching from right-hand belting to pushes – to allow Perpetual Winning to come much closer. The end-result was a short-head victory that favoured the courageous Amorous White to bring joy in Jaiswal`s camp.

Half-an-hour later, the pair was back in the winners` enclosure, when their charge, Optimum, won the 1,200m Steal The Glory Handicap, after leads changed repeatedly frequently between Amaranthus, Aunty`s Boy, Miss Willy Nilly and Winner`s Delight in the major part of the race.

Suraj made the opposition struggle on his way to partnering the 14/10 favourite, Avellino to a facile victory in the 2,000m Glotik Handicap. The champion jockey followed it up by guiding trainer Raunak Banerji`s 2/1 favourite, Big Star, to an easy start-to-finish victory in the 1,400m Fairy Heights Handicap. The two wins of Suraj also indicated that a good jockey shines on all kinds of surfaces.

Whispering Grass (Naidu) complimented his trainer, Harvinder Bath, by posting an easy victory in the 1,400m Aazish Plate. The victory of the Sedgefield`s daughter was also impressive, it being only the second run in her career, after finishing a good second to Tia Queen about a fortnight ago. The 11/2 chance was ridden off the pace but had the race well sewn up inside the last furlong.

Vijay drew a blank in the seven-event card. However, his two runners, Jacobin and Miami – both ridden by Suraj – failed to do justice to the favourite tags in their respective events – the 1,100m Alarico Handicap and the 1,200m Sunbird Handicap.

While Jacobin struggled to place fourth behind Javed`s winner, Carpe Nortem (app Rupal Singh), the speedy Miami was ridden off the pace and she proved as no match for the Aashay Doctor-trained top-weighted runner, Glorious Leap, ridden by Dhanu Deora.
