Missing You fails to maintain winning form

By: Frankel   November 24 , 2019

Dallas Todywalla trained Missing You who is considered as a strong contender for the Indian 1000 Guineas suffered an unexpected loss going down tamely to Pure Zinc in the 1400 metres A Campbell Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 to 86. The fact that Pure Zinc who was running after a break of 282 days and hadn`t won for 798 days collared the classic prospect did not enhance the reputation of Missing You.

Missing You`s victory was considered a formality and this sentiment was reflected in the market trend as well. Jockey Sandesh took Missing You on a start to finish mission with Flying Visit in the chase. Pure Zinc was in the third position some lengths adrift. In the stretch, Missing You kept the challenge of Flying Visit at bay and inside the final furlong, looked the likely winner. However, when Pure Zinc warmed up and came home with a menacing run, Missing You looked vulnerable as she couldn`t quicken enough to go beyond the reach of the challenger. Pure Zinc closed with a rush to nail the front-runner in the closing strides of the race to provide the trainer Adhiraj Jodha with a highly satisfying win. Flying Visit was third.

Another Dallas Todywalla trainee Golden Quest found the winning touch after performing poorly over an extended trip of a mile. Silver Flames who was bidding for a hat-trick was the favourite with Golden Quest whose hat-trick of wins had come over shorter trips being available at nourishing odds. Irish jockey David Egan took Golden Quest on a start to finish mission and the front-runner skipped away from Silver Flames who was in hot pursuit in the final furlong. Silver Flames was overwhelmed by Headway for the runner-up berth.

A debutant from the stables of Todywalla, Recall of You managed to pull it off in the 1000 metres Kiara Plate, a race for maiden two-year-olds. Sandesh pushed the short-priced Recall of You to take over the running within the first furlong. The favourite had to face a strong challenge from Lady Lanette and Rising Sun who both closed with big efforts, but the favourite managed to pull it off by a neck. Lady Lanette got the second position by a whisker from Rising Sun.

Hoshidar Daji trained Sunrise Ruby recorded an encore in impressive fashion in the 1600 metres Master Shifu Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 66. Enid Blyton who has more failed efforts to her credit was backed down spiritedly to end up as a firm favourite. After Fleur De Lys led the field into the straight, apprentice jockey Nazil pushed Sunrise Ruby to take charge. The progeny of Whatsthescript out of Indian Oaks winner Venus Arising quickly assumed command and stretched away for an easy win over Majestic Warrior who once again found one better. Enid Blyton failed to show any spark when finishing a tame third.

Shiraz Sunderji trained Kildare smashed the filed in the 1400 metres Secret Star Pate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Kildare had one outing during the Pune season after recording a win 245 days ago and that effort was far from encouraging. The opposition that Kildare was taking on was a pretty modest one and the one-sided support for the three-year-old gelding to bounce back to winning ways was entirely on the expected lines. After the normally sluggish Gods Plan had taken a flier and led the field into the final turn, Kildare overhauled the front-runner with a minimum of effort and went away for a win by a distance in a new course record over Sandman. Gods Plan weakened to finish third. Kildare should move up in handicap scales though to commit her as a possible classic prospect would be farfetched.

Pesi Shroff trained Notoriety pulled off an easy win in the 1600 metres M D Petit Plate, a race for horses rated 0 to 30. Jockey S John had Notoriety chase Akina Speed Star into the straight before pushing the favourite to take charge. Notoriety bounced ahead and though was challenged by Gold Magic, the favourite had enough reserves to win by a widening margin of two lengths. Ex`s And Oh`s ran on late to take the third position.

Rehanullah Khan trained Eternal Dancer whose last win was over seven furlongs after which she was tried over a mile and a half trip was racing in exactly half that distance in the 1200 metres Bejan Bharucha Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category. Angels Harmony headed the betting chart in what appeared an open type of betting affair. Angels Harmony led in earnest in the stretch but passing the final furlong veered out bumping Eternal Dancer who was shifting in causing the fall of jockey Akshay Gaikwad who completely lost balance. Eternal Dancer went on to win the race from Sandalphon and Royal Ace who dead-heated for the second position. There was a Stewards enquiry into the mishap, but they did not alter the result. In a way, Eternal Dancer was lucky because apart from the outward effort of Angels Harmony, Eternal Dancer too was veering in, but the Stewards let the result to stay. Lesser fancied Maestro from the stables of trainer Nazzak Chenoy was driven out by apprentice jockey M Ayyar to hold off the challenge of Romantic Eyes to land the spoils in the lower division of the race. Cray Cray ran on to take the third position. Favourite Macgyver was never in the hunt.
