Multifaceted confirms status as the best sprinter

  February 7 , 2020

Darius Byramji trained Multifaceted confirmed his status as an outstanding sprinter of this centre with exceptional performance in the 1200 metres Sprinters Trial Stakes, a terms race for four-year-olds and over, the feature event of Friday`s Bangalore races. Multifaceted treated course record holder Mauritania and the prolific Knotty Ash with disdain en route to a sensational third straight win.

Multifaceted has proved to be revelation ever since he was switched back to the sprint where his speed from the gates has proved to be the undoing of the opposition. Jockey Suraj Narredu was alert to the task and pushed Multifaceted to the front before the other speedy customers could get to that position and this settled the race in the first furlong itself. Multifaceted came into the straight clear of the opposition and stretched away to win by a widening margin of six lengths on tight reins with the jockey sitting pretty on the horse, not having to move a muscle. There was a skirmish behind with Mauritania inconvenienced by Silver Ikon and later by Knotty Ash. Silver Ikon who raced in the second position weakened in the final furlong and Knotty Ash surged ahead and held off Mauritania and Tutankhamun to grab the second position. The course record of Mauritania which stands at one minute 9.943 seconds would have been in danger had Suraj rode out the winner. Multifaceted clocked a brilliant time of one minute 10.62 seconds.

Neil Darashah trained Violin made an impressive winning debut swamping the opposition to win the 1100 metres February Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. The speedy daughter of Phoenix Tower hit the front from the word `go` and in the final furlong went beyond the reach of the rest to win pulling up by a margin of seven-plus lengths. Welcome Surprise held on to keep the second position ahead of the late-rallying Code of Honour.

It is unusual to find jockey Suraj Narredu riding a Narayan Gowda trained horse. When Suraj was declared to ride Areca Angel who had gone winless for about 565 days, it was clear that the five-year-old mare would be racing in earnest. Areca Angel was backed down as a strong favourite close to race time. Areca Angel chased Desert Gold into the straight before Suraj alerted the favourite to the task. Areca Angel tackled the front runner in the stretch without much effort and sailed away for a facile win by more than five lengths over Perfect King and She`s Stylish. Most of the horses in the fray had no worthwhile form to go by with Areca Angel too having finished 11 lengths behind the winner in her last effort.

Prasanna Kumar trained Indian Empress bounced back to winning ways after a disappointing run last time out by trouncing the opposition in the 1200 metres Bharachukki Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 50. Last start winner Skyfire and Indian Empress were the ones in serious betting in the ring. Jockey S John took Indian Empress to the front form the word `go` and did not let anyone come close as the filly eventually won by a margin of over five lengths. Skyfire went in the chase but found the front-runner too good for comfort. Singhsaab finished on late but narrowly failed to snatch the runner-up berth from Skyfire. Prasanna Kumar also led in the winner of the lower division of the race. The heavily backed Harbour Sunrise broke the maidens` ranks in her fourth attempt, easily tackling Donna Bella in the final furlong and stormed clear to by a margin of over four lengths. Sandarina who led into the stretch stayed on to take the third position.

Favourite Queen of Sands from the stables of Imtiaz Khan obliged as a strongly backed favourite in the 1200 metres Forever Elegance Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Queen of Sands came up with a powerful effort down the final furlong and overhauled the quietly gambled Torosanto to win the race. Alberto who was handily placed failed to quicken in the manner expected and had to settle for the second position. There was a flood of money on Heavenly Angel to win the Division II of the race. The four-year-old was backed down from a higher quote to become a strong favourite. However, Heavenly Angel reared up at the start and the jockey was off the saddle effectively taking the money down the drain. Pradeep Annaiah trained The Preacher bolted to the front and had no problem in staying well clear of Blarney Stone and Hidden Soldier to win the race by five lengths at big odds. Irfan Ghatala trained Up Front had it easy in the Division III of the race. Padmanabhan trained Mrs Thatcher was the favourite but the filly was withdrawn at the gates on veterinary grounds. Apprentice jockey Shamaz Shareef took the fancied Up Front to the front and the progeny of Knight`s Tour had no problem in keeping the lead all the way to the post. In fact, Up Front skipped clear of her nearest pursuer Iconic Princess in the final furlong for a win by a widening margin of three lengths. Commandpost came up with a late dash but missed the runner-up berth by a whisker.
