The Wolf pips Sea Lagoon to land day’s feature

By: Stay Thirsty   November 23 , 2016

Michael Eshwer trained The Wolf fought out a thrilling battle all the way in the final furlong with favourite Sea Lagoon before putting his head in front at the all-important end to win the 1400 metres S M Attaollahi Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Wednesday`s Mysore races. Eshwer had a profitable day saddling three winners during the day`s action.

Sea Lagoon had a profitable run during the last season. She had won four races in a row before her winning sequence was halted by Feliciana. Because she was taking on only the local position, her victory in the feature event was taken for granted. Sea Lagoon got a good run along the inside to go ahead in the final furlong with The Wolf also essaying a strong challenge. The battle lasted till the closing strides of the race with The Wolf managing to wrest the race by a whisker. Color Proof ran on to finish third.

Eshwer`s another ward Michaela who had been sparingly raced, was bidding for a hat-trick of wins and came in for spirited support ahead of Script Writer in the 1600 metres Big Deal Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Michaela burst through the middle with 200 metres left in the race and left the field stranded to record a fashionable win. Script Writer was totally outpaced and had to be content with the second place about five lengths behind the winner. In the form that she is in, Michaela should continue her winning streak if she is kept confined to handicap races.

Rakesh trained Chandini has always proved a handful whenever she has shown alacrity from the gates. Racing in a handy position well into the straight, Chandini unleased a powerful run down the final furlong in the hands of jockey Madhu Babu to win the 1600 metres Great Cherisma Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Dancing Blues who was in with a chance was relegated to the second place with Skyfullofstars taking the third place. Eshwer trained Waterfall took over the running after traversing the first furlong and was never headed thereafter to win the lower division of the race with a measure of comfort. There was lot of support for Here`s Abbey to pull it off but the fancied runner found the front-runner too hot to handle and had to settle for the runner-up berth ahead of Robinhood Pandey.

Bobby trained Domitia led all the way in the 1200 metres Nanjangud Plate, a race for maiden two-year-olds and skipped away in the final stages of the race to record a handsome win. Country`s Storm necked out favourite Imposter to take the runner-up berth.

Azure Fire from the stables of trainer Pratap Kamath had all the support to win the 1200 metres Kakanakote Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Jockey Prasad took Azure Fire on a start to finish mission with Beautiful Effect in earnest chase. The front-runner looked vulnerable for a while in the straight before the front-runner kicked away to record a comfortable win. Catchy Charger was third. Kentucky Rose assumed command after chasing Al Dhama well into the straight and stormed away to win the lower division of the race despite drifting out of a straight course. Favourite Mother Ewa tried hard to catch up but failed but managed to save the second place from Garv in a tight finish.

Nataraj trained Sazae San was the favourite to win the 1400 metres Manasagangotri Plate, a race for horses in the lowest country but it was stablemate Amazing Khodal who proved immensely superior. Sazae San went on a start to finish but down the final furlong, Amazing Khodal easily overhauled the stablemate and went away for an easy win. The rest of the runners who raced several lengths behind these two runners deep into the straight had no chance of catching up. As Always ran on to save place money.
