Southern Promise has it easy in Juvenile Million

By: Tippu Sultan   November 28 , 2016

Laxman Singh trained Southern Promise who looked better prepared than the rest, easily won the 1100 metres Juvenile Million, a race for two-year-olds, the feature event of races held at Malakpet on Monday. Southern Promise took control of the race from the start and with the rest of the runners looking too raw for comfort, the race became a non-contest.

The juvenile million had a couple of runners who had the benefit of a race run. Vancouver had a race run but that run wasn`t anything to suggest that the filly could be in the thick of things. Southern Promise showed out in the paddock parade but the only area of concern was the fact that the progeny of Multidimensional was essaying a sharp trip. However, the preparedness helped as Suraj Narredu could take the fancied runner to the front, enjoyed an uncontested lead all the way and the filly checked in well clear of the battling duo of Vancouver and Eternal Angel. Eternal Angel was at the wrong end of the field but rallied in the straight and missed the runner-up berth by a whisker. The winner was impressive but nothing much can be said about the rest of the runners as they have a long way to go.

Anupam Sharma trained Ashwa Raftar looked too good for the field in the 1200 metres Hi Tech Plate, a race for horses rated 66 to 90 after his impressive second behind England. He was well placed in the scales to score. Ashwa Raftar did not encounter serious challenge from any of the runners as he skipped clear in the final furlong to win with a measure of comfort. Altruist ran on to finish second ahead of King Of Pop who edge out O Ms Akilah to save place money.

Ananth Vatsalya trained Amorous White recorded an encore in the 1200 metres Onnu Onnu Onnu Plate, a race for two-year-olds. The speedy son of Stern Opinion easily kept the challenge of another last start winner Fashion High at bay. Stern Opinion led from the start and kept on distancing himself from the rest and was assured of the win a long way from home. High Fashion chased the front-runner without hope while finishing second best ahead of Gladstone.

Ragas Ajalias tried to win the 1200 metres Ming Dynasty Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 26 to 50 but closer home, a cluster of horses charged at her so much so that in a trice four horses had passed her. Long shot Scooby Dooby Doo finished on strongly to get the nod ahead of Ikigai, Vijays Honour and Bharat Queen in a cluster finish. The lower division of the race too was bagged by another long shot Queen To Rule who gamely hold on to the lead built in the final furlong to win from fast-finishing favourite Vijays Dynamite who found the front-runner escape to safety. Born To Do It saved the third place from Act In Time.

Vittal Deshmukh trained Masti chased Kohinoor Grace well into the straight before kicking clear in the final furlong to win the 1100 metres Dr S R Captain Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 40 to 70 quite easily from favourite Oh Dear. The well performed Oh Dear cornered all the support in the betting ring despite inexperienced apprentice Rohit Kumar being in the saddle. Oh Dear improved along the rails but had to be angled out in the final furlong to get a clear run. The adjustment took a while by which time Masti gone beyond the reach. Oh Dear could only get the better of Kohinoor Grace to claim the runner-up berth.

Apprentice jockey B R Kumar guided General Salute to an easy win over Ayur Jyothi in the 1200 metres Flying Treasure Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. Ayur Jyothi moved up swiftly on straightening for home and slightly went on to Ayur Jyothi but in no way impeded the progress of the latter. General Salute went on to win comfortably. Shandaar was third. There was an objection by Akshay Kumar who rode Ayur Jyothi against Kumar for interference but the same did not favour with the Stewards. Faisal Hassan trained Darakshan Setarah came up with a strong run down the final furlong to go storming clear of Dawning Hope to record a comfortable win in the lower division of the race. Samba headed Prep One to get the third place.

Apprentice jockey Kumar was also successful astride last start winner Western Wind who flew home to measure the front-running Kalinda to win the 1600 metres Mica Empress Cup, a race for horses rated 46 to 70. Kalinda had a useful lead going into the final furlong but the decisive way Western Wind accelerated put paid to the hopes of the front-runner. Augusta Bombshell who was struggling at the back gathered some steam in the end to finish third.
