King Credible takes all by a surprise

By: Goldie Boy   November 29 , 2016

Trainer Bharath Singh`s chestnut colt, King Credible (T.S. Jodha-up) dealt a deadly blow in the 1,200m Hong Kong Jockey Club Trophy, the chief attraction in Tuesday`s eight-event card. King Credible was not the only outsider during the afternoon who produced a winning gallop, trainer Harvinder Bath`s long shot, Winning fortune (P.S. Chauhan), too, decided to put her best foot forward to take an easy measure of the opposition in 1 14-horse field lined up for the 1,200 Sunbird Handicap.

If King Credible made every post of the 1,100m trip a winning one to easily account for the first timers, Chauhan had to hold back Winning Fortune behind the long time leader, Sushi (C. Alford), in the early half of the sprint, before making his winning run. In the same race trainer Arti Doctor`s neglected in the betting filly, Fire Song (apprentice Ranidan Singh), placed a good second. Her performance was credible, in view of the slated trip; which is hardly her comfortable zone. Equally praiseworthy was the run of the third placed horse, Romantic Magic (S. John) who is known for his exploits over the middle distances. The two horses are expected to do better in the coming weeks.

Arti`s heavily fancied Arctic Convoy, however, made every post of the lower division of the 1,100m Ardiles Handicap, a winning one, thanks to jockey Suraj Narredu`s power-packed riding that prevailed over the Trevor Patel-ridden Spear Of Trium in a desperately close finish. The later, from trainer Naredra Lagad`s sizeable city stable, was an equal fancy at 9/4 and the top-weighted horse was not disgraced by the short-head defeat.

Early in the afternoon, Suraj had, however, found the going easy, against the same rider (Trevor), while partnering trainer Farley Rodrigue`s top-weighted, but strongly fancied charge, Top Cat, in the 2,000m Aztec Handicap. In fact, Suraj made the victory of Top Cat look easy, having been out-paced by the light-weighted runner, Hibiki (Trevor) and Atri`s Simply Royale (C. Alford) in the first half of the journey. Nursing Top Cat back into the contention, and with the positive respond from the 5/2 favourite, the victory came easy for the big-striding horse inside the final furlong of the race.

Vijay, too, started the day with a quick double. Celeroni (apprentice Munna Alam) provided the champion trainer with the first break in the day`s opener, the 1,200m Advisor Handicap. The matured apprentice allowed Arti`s West Cape to dictate the terms till turning for home, before taking the charge of the running to help the 18/10 favourite win untroubled.

Half-an-hour later in the 1,600m Bright Law Handicap Vijay`s Splash Proof (Dashrath Singh), the joint favourite with Rewalding (Mohit Singh), also found the going easy. In fact, Mohit contributed amply towards the victory of Vijay`s charge, having made a mess of his winning chances right from the start.

Trevor, finally, made it to winner`s enclosure after Bharath`s 7/2 chance in the betting, Aquitania, took the measure of Annie Oakley and Lagad`s Autralian Agatta.

However, Lagad, another heavily fancied top-weighted runner, Dragon Of War (Dashrath) made his own running to easily lift the upper division of the Ardiles Handicap.
