Excelonce asserts supremacy in feature

By: Stay Thirsty   December 7 , 2016

Rakesh trained Excelonce proved strong for the opposition in the 1400 metres C Dasharatharama Shetty Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of Wednesday`s Mysore races. The progeny of China Visit got the measure of front-running Kazuri inside the final furlong and bounced ahead to win with a measure of comfort from late-rallying favourite Storm Ahead.

Storm Ahead whose last effort at Bangalore was a winning one, had been relocated to Mysore. Though the trip was sharp for the progeny of Admiralofthefleet, Storm Ahead was backed as a favourite since his winning efforts at Bangalore had come against better type of horses. Kazuri attempted start to finish tactics but could not sustain the lead when Excelonce launched his assault. Excelonce overhauled the front-runner without much ado and stretched out well to win the race as a fancied runner. Storm Ahead rallied late but did not have the speed to make a difference to the outcome of the race and had to settle for the second spot. Kazuri stayed on to take the third spot and returned rich dividend on place betting on the tote.

Michel Eshwer trained Excelerate was another who was worthy of the price that he commanded in the betting as the well performed son of Phoenix Tower easily beat the challenge of the opposition in the 1200 metres Sahyadri Plate, a race for horses rated 60 and above. Jockey K G Steyn had Excelerate in a handy position all through the race before spurting clear inside the final 200 metres to win the race quite easily from Flying Show. Catharsis benefitted from front-running and saved place money. Amorate failed to get a good start and was never in the hunt.

Eshwer`s other ward Tobin finally broke the jinx in the 1100 metres Pattadakal Plate (Div II), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Tobin in the hands of jockey Zervan, led from the start and skipped away from the rest in the final furlong to win the race with great deal ease from late flashing Point. Bryant Park too was late on the scene while occupying the third place. The upper division of the race was won by Bobby trained Silsila who led all way and proved overwhelmingly superior to the rest. Scorpene held off Happy Victory to get the runner-up berth.

Long shot Beautiful Effect got stronger on the wide outside and managed to thwart the bid of Kir Royale who rallied strongly along the rails to win the 1400 metres Mekedaatu Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Amazing Khodal was third. Zoe won the lower division of the race with a late dash which was good enough to overhaul Ice Sprint in nick of time to land the spoils. Archimedes was a close third.

Nataraj trained Dazzle Away asserted her supremacy in the 1200 metres Dandeli Plate, a race for horses in the lowest class. Dazzle Away was handily placed and was in right position to launch an assault on the front-running Khodal Princess. Dazzle Away steadily gained ascendancy in the run in for home and went into a decisive lead inside the final 100 metres to win the race emphatically. Khodal Princess held off Precious Script and Delta Delight in a tight finish for the second place.

Vishal Yadav trained Nikka appeared to be more ready than the rest in the 1200 metres Fame And Glory Plate, a race for maiden two-year-olds. Nikka led from the start and though she was drifting to the outer grass in the final stages of the race, she was clear of the danger. Amaris was second ahead of Silver Grey.

Feroz Khan trained Country`s Warrior was one of the short-priced horses to oblige during the day`s action. Backed to the exclusion of the rest, Country`s Warrior tracked stablemate Country`s Charm into the straight before slipping along the rails and go clear of the rest. Black Wind came up with a late bid to finish second ahead Samay Balwan and As Always in a tight finish for minor placings.
