Lucky Pineapple makes it easily in feature

By: Stay Thirsty   December 14 , 2016

P C Tejaswi trained Lucky Pineapple had no problems in claiming the 1200 metres Elusive Pimpernel Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of races held at Mysore on Wednesday. The lower division of the race went the way of favourite Arrive who toyed with the opposition to register an emphatic win.

Masteroftherolls who had won two back-to-back races was strongly backed to complete a hat-trick. There was also strong support for Lucky Pineapple. Lucky Pineapple who was none too well placed at the top of the straight, covered the leeway briskly and by the final furlong, was so full of running that it was clear that he would overhaul the front-runners with ease. Lucky Pineapple sped past the rest to record a comprehensive win over Bandito and Savannah Sound. Masteroftherolls made no show. Santosh Rao trained Arrive had the best chance in the lower division of the race having run second twice in succession with forward efforts. Now entrusted to apprentice Abhilash, the speedy Arrive led in front and skipped away from the rest to win as she pleased. Skyjet was another who came for sustained support but found the winner too good and had to settle for the second place ahead of Tulip.

Rakesh trained Momotaro perhaps relished the softer underfoot conditions as he produced a strong effort in the final furlong to get the better of Bold Police who is long in the tooth to win the 1600 metres Lalbagh Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Script Writer struggled for speed and fought her way to finish third. Pikachu failed to find foot and was a tame fourth.

Michael Eshwer trained Sardinia just about lasted out to win from fast-finishing Benedetta to win the 1400 metres Nagarjunasagar Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Sardinia had the first run on her opponents but was hard-pressed to maintain the lead as Benedetta looked like she can overhaul the front-runner but the winning post was sighted a fraction earlier for the good of the runner-up. Here`s Abbey who did the front-running, weakened in the final furlong to eventually finish third.

Pratap Kamath trained Ayahuasca won the 1200 metres Shillong Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45, in a comprehensive manner. Ayahuasca hit the front from the word `go` and broke clear of the pack in the straight to win by an expanding margin of four lengths over Reach The Stars who managed to head Invincible Wish for the second place. Amazing who should have been in the fighting line, graced the rear, apprentice jockey Waseemuddin unable to do anything on the horse as his riding equipment appeared to be imposing problems. Amazing finished last. Another Kamath trainee Jamais Vu threatened to bring off an upset in the lower division of the race but closer home, the lesser fancied Forest Queen covered up the leeway and overhauled the long-time leader in the shadow of the post. Favourite Ole was a well-beaten third.

After tracking Golden Steps well into the straight, long shot Country`s Power got stronger and measured the front-runner to win the 1400 metres Common Grounds Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category. On Her Own finished on well to edge past the long-time leader Jamais Vu to get the runner-up berth. Samay Balwan found foot too late and had to settle for the third slot. The lower division of the race went the way of another long shot Esterhazy from the stables of Bipin Salvi. Esterhazy, in the hands of apprentice jockey M L Bhosle, had a good lead going into the final furlong and just about scraped home from strongly finishing Time To Time by a fast diminishing margin of a neck. Coffee Time saved place money.
