City of Harmony romps home in feature

By: Tippu Sultan   December 25 , 2016

Mangipalli Satyanarayana trained City of Harmony had no problem in swamping the opposition in the 1800 metres R Raghupathi Reddy Memorial Cup, a handicap race for horses rated 86 and above, the feature event of Sunday`s Hyderabad races held on Sunday. Though City of Harmony was taking on more seasoned horses, his performance in the Golconda 2000 Guineas was so good that his victory at favourable handicap looked a formality.

City of Harmony had won thrice from five starts. He was not far from Germanicus who managed to beat London by a whisker in the Guineas. There were solid performers in the fray but they had all left the best behind them and were also handicapped by the weights that they had to carry. While Tintinnabulation was carrying on despite many physical niggles he had in his long career, the zest for racing of Woman O War had been blunted by her racing almost every other day over all distances. It came as no surprise that both lost considerable ground at the start. After the field had travelled a little more than a furlong, Red Rambble took over the running as is his wont and opened a good margin over the rest. Rounding the final turn, Red Rambble looked vulnerable as a couple of horses shaped to overhaul him but the five-year-old battled on relentlessly to keep his position. In the meanwhile, City of Harmony was brought into contention from way off the pace and the progeny of Rebuttal produced a strong run in the hands of jockey Beuzelin Louis to go storming clear for an authoritative win. Red Rambble held off Found Money to keep the runner-up berth. Now that City of Harmony has done well over the extended trip, he is sure to be in the line for the Derby over the gruelling trip of a mile and a half.

Donald Netto trained Double Chatter looked a strong contender in the 1200 metres Romantic Fantasy Plate, a race for horses rated 46 to 70 especially after the four-year-old filly had finished a close second to Exclusive Wind in her last run. Now taking on a comparatively weaker lot of horses. Double Chatter was taken on a start to finish mission by Beuzelin Louis. The progeny of Lucifer Sam skipped clear from the rest in the final furlong for a decisive win over Scooby Dooby Doo and Top Contender. The last named relegated Breezeofthesouth to the fourth position by a whisker.

Satheesh trained Limitation had an excellent of landing the spoils in the 1600 metres I EME Centre Rolling Trophy, a race for horses rated 46 to 70, if he did not lose too much ground at the start. Limitation broke off well from the gates and thereafter it was quite evident that he would be a handy customer. After Penumatcha`s Pride led deep into the straight, Limitation produced stunning acceleration in the final furlong to go storming clear to record an impressive win. Penumatcha`s Pride held off Augusta Bombshell to keep the second place. Dahlois made no show.

Faisal Hassan trained That`s My Class had recorded an impressive win in his debut run and he had an excellent chance of recording an encore in the 1400 metres Haridwar Plate, a race for two-year-olds. Top Link, however, got all the support in the betting. Top Link led in earnest but once the pressure was on, the favourite faltered and finished a poor third. That`s My Class produced the winning burst with 200 metres left in the race and sped away for an easy win over Lady In Lace.

Netto trained Avantika had finished an eye-catching second last time out and since she had suffered interference early on which affected her being positioned ideally. As such the strong support for the three-year-old to make amends was entirely in keeping with the promise of previous effort in the 1200 metres Galactica Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 26 to 50. However, Avantika was never in striking position and in the straight too, looked beat as she failed to produce a powerful burst of speed. Platinum led all the way but closer home was overhauled by Magnum who found the right rhythm to emerge victorious. Amazing Venus who was up with the pace stayed on to take the third position. Srinivas Reddy trained Manoveg enjoyed an uncontested lead and had enough steam to skip clear of his only challenger Born To Do It to win the lower division of the race at nourishing odds. Favourite Royal Dynamite had too much leeway to cover in the straight which he looked incapable of doing so. Bharat King despite losing position early in the race, ran on to save place money.

Faiyaz Shaikh trained Hunter`s Pride produced a late rally to measure the front-running Catherine in the final moments of the race to win the 1100 metres Loveable Princess Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 26 to 50. Catherine appeared to have the race in control when she had a useful lead going into the final furlong but faltered close home to surrender the race to Hunter`s Pride. Midnight Paris got the third place from Garib Parwar in the closing stages of the race. Satheesh trained Fair And Square looked to have the best chance in the lower division of the race. Apprentice jockey Boppanna got his act right as he took the lesser fancied runner to the front and Fair And Squared stayed there in front, finishing well clear of Bouncer for an emphatic win. Military Cross who was in touch with the front-runners, finished third.

Apprentice jockey B R Kumar could steer the well-backed Good Confidence to a start to finish win over Sefarina in the 1200 metres Sweet Girl Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. The fact that Good Confidence sported aluminium shoes after running with the steel shoes itself indicated that something was brewing which was also indicated by the noticeable support in the betting ring. True to expectations, Good Confidence was in front and pulled it off quite comfortable in the end despite veering out of a straight course under pressure. Dawning Hope was third.
