Adam makes amends for earlier failure

By: Tippu Sultan   January 3 , 2017

Pesi Shroff-trained Adam who had given below par performance last time out, made amends by easily claiming the 1200 metres Golconda Million, a terms race for four-year-olds and over, the feature event of Tuesday`s races held at Malakpet. Last year`s Sprinters Cup winner was favoured by the terms of the race and the scales were heavily loaded in his favour to bounce back.

Vijays Joy who had proved his mettle as a sprinter of substance on the local track was backed strongly to put it across Adam though he did not joy any benefit by the terms of the race. Vijays Joy is only a winner of handicap races and has not even won a graded race in good company against local opposition as well. At level weights, he stood no chance against Adam unless the latter performed below par yet again. Vijays Joy was sorted out easily this time out as his front-running tactics saw him weakening well before the final furlong and Adam who was handily placed stormed ahead and won the race quite easily from Satellite who was too far behind to catch up with the owner mate. Vijays Joy was third while Galiat suffered from going at a fast clip along with Vijays Joy and finished last.

Vittal Deshmukh trained Mr Baahubali had won last time out despite losing ground at the start. The progeny of Stern Opinion looked too strong for the field in the 1200 metres Speaker`s Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 66 to 90. The miserly odds quoted by the bookmakers was in line with this perception. Srinath had Mr Baahubali chase Numinous well into the straight before breaking clear to record an emphatic win. Vallee Secrete finished on well to take the second slot ahead of Altruist. Favourite Rahul`s Pet tried to win the lower division of the race with an aggressive run in front but was caught up and overhauled by Exclusive Wind inside the final furlong who recorded a comfortable win in the hands of jockey Trevor Patel. City of Wonders headed a cluster of horses finishing behind to grab the third place.

Anupam Sharma trained Symbol of Pride won the 1100 metres G V Rao Memorial Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 46 to 70 quite easily even as favourite Masti played truant with a dismal performance and was not spotted to be in with any chance. Symbol of Pride gained ascendancy in the final furlong and had no problem in keeping the challenge of Rock Heights and Fair And Square at bay. Par Excellence ran on well towards the close to finish fourth. Satyanarayana trained Exclusive Beauty managed to win the lower division of the race thanks to a powerful effort on the part of jockey Srinath who literally lifted his horse to cross the wire ahead of favourite Astra by a whisker. Catherine who led till the final moments of the race was a close third.

Ravinder Singh trained Raja Hindustani recorded the biggest upset of the day in the concluding race of the day, the 1200 metres Common Land Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 50. Raja Hindustani came home with a strong effort and god the nod in the closing strides of the race, getting the better of Symbol of Gold who shaped like a winner after shooting ahead in the final furlong. Ikigai who has been running almost every other week brought in some valuable corn money by finishing third.

Donald Netto trained Big Heart was showing out in the workouts and looked ready to make a bold show in the 1400 metres Agostini Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. Backed to the exclusion of the rest, Big Heart gave no anxious moments as jockey Beuzelin Louis took the favourite on a start to finish mission. Big Heart always maintained a healthy distance from the rest to eventually win by a margin of over three lengths. Creator who chased the favourite, stayed on to finish second ahead of Lost And Found who showed some spark at the finish.

Apprentice jockey B R Kumar had the fancied Bharat King racing freely in front and had enough cushion to win by a neck from fast-finishing Sea Change to win the 1400 metres Mountain Lily Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 50. Island Bird was third while favourite Azazil made no show.

Hilton Sequeira trained Bullish Approach clinched a last stride win in the 2400 metres Falaknuma Cup, a race for horses rated 26 to 50. Sir Walter Raleigh led from the start and maintained the lead well beyond the final furlong. However, closer home, he weakened allowing Hal Chal to surge ahead. Under a relentless ride by Sai Kumar, Bullish Approach closed the gap vigorously and managed to clinch the issue by the proverbial whisker.
