Port Blair donkey licks the opposition in feature

By: Stay Thirsty   February 1 , 2017

Tejaswi trained Port Blair proved vastly superior to the opposition in the 1400 metres Committee Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Wednesday`s Mysore races. Jockey Sai Vamshi had the most rewarding day of his career booting home four winners thereby indicating that he had both style as well as substance in his riding.

Abderus was strongly fancied to win the race but the fancied runner shot his bolt after bringing the field into the straight. With most of the runners taking the turn wide at the final bend, Port Blair got a dream run along the inside. The progeny of Noverre seized the opportunity, quickly went ahead and then drew clear to eventually win by a widening margin of eight lengths over King Julien who necked out Class Is Class to get the runner-up berth. The Wolf who was running detached from the field, made some ground in the straight to finish fourth. Sai Vamshi had no problem in steering Savannah Sound to a facile win in the lower division of the race. Savannah Sound moved up with a flourish from way off the pace and collared the front-running Magnolia with a minimum of fuss and spurted clear to win the race in great style. Color Proof ran on to finish third.

Monnappa trained Admiral Act asserted his supremacy in the 1200 metres Mysore Zoo plate, a race for three-year-old maidens only. Admiral Act led from the start and Sai Vamshi on the front-runner faced no threat from the rest of the runners as he enjoyed an uncontested lead in front and won with a measure of comfort from Sadeek and Tigris.

Siddhani came in for spirited betting close to race time to end up as a firm favourite for the 1200 metres Sangam Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Siddhani got firm control of the race in the final furlong as she bounced clear of Skyjet in the final furlong to win the race in good style. Azure Fire had all the chances but could not quicken significantly in the final furlong to make a difference to the outcome of the race. Sai Vamshi who guided Siddhani to victory, was also astride the winner of the well backed last start winner Eloika who won the lower division of the race getting the better of Generous Gesture in the final furlong. Generous Gesture had the lead going into the final furlong and put up some resistance to Eloika before the latter proved his undoubted superiority. Mr Carpe was third.

Ranjeet Shinde trained Platinum Pearl justified the tons of money that he attracted on his success in the 1400 metres Formal Invitation Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Platinum Pearl had his followers cheering in delight as the favourite had the opposition beaten by the final furlong. Platinum Pearl bounced clear inside the final 200 metres to win by a comfortable margin of five lengths over Skyfullofstars who held off Country`s Power to get the second berth. Lesser fancied Lovely Micmel from the stables of S M Johnson won the lower division of the race with a start to finish mission in the hands of apprentice jockey Abhilash. Lovely Micmel led by many lengths from the beginning and with none of the runners looking capable of upsetting the applecart of the front-runner, the long shot had the race under control long way from home. Love Micmel by won by more than six lengths over Jolfa who chased the front-runner without hope. Eldorado ran on to save place money.

Feroz Khan trained Country`s Angel looked superior in the 1200 metres Gerusoppa Plate, a race for horses rated 0 to 25 and this sentiment was also reflected in the betting ring which saw the top weight go the past as a favourite. Jockey Saddam Hussain had Country`s Angel tracking Sheer Luck into the straight before cruising past the front-runner to establish a big lead without having to be ridden out strongly. Country`s Angel won the race by a margin of over three lengths from Sheer Luck who stayed on grimly to get the runner-up berth from Order Order and Brown Fairy who charged home with a late flourish.

Kodal`s Princess, a long shot from the stables of trainer Pratap Kamath, won the 1400 metres Ajantha Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category, with a start to finish mission. Apprentice jockey Aman Ali Jafri had no hesitation in taking Kodal`s Princess to make an aggressive effort in front and the progeny of Royal Gladiator held off the late flourish of Infinithoughts with a determined effort. Mr Chang occupied the third place.
