Siddhani romps home in Crystal Man Plate

By: Stay Thirsty   February 16 , 2017

Rakesh trained Siddhani romped home in the 1200 metres Crystal Man Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 60 and above, the highest rated race of Wednesday`s Mysore races. The lesser fancied runner measured the field inside the final 100 metres to record an easy win in the hands of jockey Sai Vamshi. Incidentally, the jockey who is accumulating a bagful of winners had another rewarding day.

Kazuri who has been consistent enjoyed more thrust in the betting rings but the odds board indicated that the race was an open affair and none of the contestants could be picked as a sure thing. The speedy Arrive led the field followed by Kazuri while Siddhani made her run along the rails along with Port Blair and Abderus. Rounding the final turn, Arrive continued his foray in front though he looked vulnerable as Kazuri made his bid. Siddhani was in danger of being completely baulked along the rails but the jockey wisely chose to angle out before getting stuck. The progeny of West Virginia picked up momentum and was drawing clear of the rest in the final stages of the race. Arrive stayed on to take the second position ahead of Kazuri and Abderus while Port Blair let down badly. The lower division of the race was won by favourite Country`s Courage who could overcome the challenge of both Flying Show and last start winner Eloika with relative ease.

C V G K Kishore trained Tremendous had been hitting the board consistently but had found the winning post elusive. The opportunity presented itself in the 1400 metres Kodachadri Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65 with the trainer also returning from his stay in USA. From a fifth or sixth position at the top of the straight, Tremendous picked up steam steadily in the straight and measured the front-running Aliboxer to go storming clear to record a comfortable win. Towards the close, Aliboxer was pressed by two horses namely Haloween`s Way who made a good rally along the rails and Stellenbosch who both overhauled him in the final moments of the race to get the second and third positions respectively. Aliboxer weakened to finish fourth. Fancied Storm Ahead was never in the hunt and seemed to have taken an off day.

Sai Vamshi drove out lesser fancied Ayra`s Delight to victory in the 1200 metres M Govindappa Memorial Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Ayra`s Delight was within striking distance of Ayahuasca who attempted to win with start to finish tactics. Ayra`s Delight came up with a big burst of speed with a furlong left in the race to sail clear of the front-runner to win by a widening margin of three lengths over Country`s Angel, Dhanyavaad and Ayahuasca. The second, third and fourth places were all determined by narrow margins. Feroz Khan trained Country`s Tigress was hailed a winner inside the final furlong as the filly had beaten the rest and stormed ahead with no visible threat on the horizon. Flying Show held off Eloika to get the runner-up berth.

Rakesh trained Chandini has specialized in the job of coming last to first as the race progresses if things fall in place. Chandini accomplished a successful mission in the 1800 metres Tuticorin Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Chandini was last into the straight but found places along the rails to make her run and managed to gain an edge in the shadow of the post to win the race from Storming Home, Gutsy Wind and Rustic Sunrise who were all finishing with determined efforts.

Santosh Rao trained Golden Steps had the credentials to win the 1400 metres Ujire Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45, despite inexperienced apprentice Shivpoojan being astride. The thrust of the market was in favour of Amazing who was the overwhelming favourite to win the race at short odds. However, Golden Steps who came into strong contention in the final furlong stormed clear and established a sizable lead before Amazing could warm up for the task and recorded a win at lucrative odds. Amazing just about managed to grab the second position from Ephialities.

Apprentice jockey A Ali Jafri successfully accomplished the task of steering lesser fancied Kodals Princess to win the 1600 metres Brave Dancer Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Kodals Princess broke into a big lead as soon as entering the homestretch and the other runners in the fray did not have a realistic chance of catching up with the front-runner. Micron Yaacow who was in the rear group, improved places along the rails finding the necessary spaces and finished with a strong effort which could only fetch the six-year-old the runner-up berth ahead of Sazae San.
