Fjord emphatic in repeat victory

By: Stay Thirsty   June 28 , 2017

Michael Eshwer trained Fjord scored a ridiculously easy repeat win in the 1200 metres RWITC Ltd Trophy, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of Wednesday`s Mysore races. Races ran kindly for punters with almost all winners having credentials to win and were prominently on the radar of the punters looking for serious contestants.

Fjord had recorded an impressive win last time out despite the saddle having shifted out. Now backed with more confidence to oblige, the progeny of Phoenix Tower gave no anxious moments to her supporters. Jockey Prashanth Debe took the favourite to the front from the jump out and the speedy customer went on expanding the lead in the straight to win by a widening margin of nine lengths despite drifting out of a straight course at the finish. Brown Beauty was the best of the beaten brigade, taking the second spot with a late rally necking out Just By Chance.

Rakesh trained Castle King broke a sequence of poor runs with an authoritative win in the 1400 metres Kinski Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Favourite Markus Sittikus led from the start and led into the final furlong. But once Castle King began to cover the leeway in the straight and got into his stride in the final furlong, there was no stopping the eight-year-old who stormed clear to win in style. Markus Sittikus saved the second position, just about managing to finish ahead of late finisher Veni Vidi Vici.

Michael Eshwer trained Tobin who had been running consistent races, hammered the opposition in the 1100 metres Harangi Dam Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. In the hands of apprentice jockey Rayan Ahmed, Tobin led the charge, enjoyed an uncontested lead and checked in more than five lengths clear of Majestic Queen. The latter just about escaped being pushed to the third place by fast-finishing Diamond Attraction. Hyderabad jockey Sai Kiran who has been successful in squeezing out a few wins before heading back to his hometown for the monsoon season beginning on July 13, drove out fancied Run To Win aggressively to get the better of front-running Chase The Ace in the dying moments of the lower division of the race. Chase The Ace led all the way but in the final furlong, had to battle hard to keep the lead but in the end, went down to his relentless pursuer.

The day`s contests were generally one-sided and in keeping with this trend, Golden Cruise also won in this fashion in the 1200 metres Nadir Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category. Golden Cruise whose last run was a good forward effort, led from the start and found herself all alone in front without no rival in her shadow. Jockey Amyn Merchant thus had an arm-chair ride to victory. The contest for the runner-up berth was a close one, with Star Binder managing to put his head in front at the post ahead of Go Man Go who was late to warm up to the task. Girinath trained Bold Nature chased Vroom Vroom well into the straight before asserting her supremacy in the lower division of the race. Precious Script tried to catch up with the front-runner but was found wanting. Aretes was third.

Lucky Emerald won the 1600 metres Talakaveri Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45, in a tight finish. Favourite Waterfall led into the straight but began to peter out in the straight. One of a Kind then had the lead but he was always under pressure to retain it with Lucky Emerald putting a stiff challenge. Jockey Amyn Merchant could squeeze out that bit extra to get the nod at the post. Two other horses, Clouds and Rustic Sunrise made an aggressive dash but had to settle for the third and fourth slots, with ¾ lengths and two short heads separating the first four placed horses. Waterfall reportedly burst her blood vessels which was the reason why she dropped back steadily in the straight to finish last.
