Tigris proves formidable in Mysore Fillies Stakes

By: Stay Thirsty   July 5 , 2017

Michael Eshwer trained Tigris proved formidable in the 1400 metres Mysore Fillies Trial Stakes, a terms race for three-year-olds, the feature event of Wednesday`s races. Tigris maintained her good form with an aggressive run in front and storming clear in the final furlong. Hyderabad based jockey Sai Kiran had a good double through Galaxy Queen and Catwalk Queen.

Bangalore challenger Setaglow was more preferred than the rest though the Arjun Mangalorkar trainee had recorded a run-of-the-mill win in her last outing during the winter season and hadn`t raced for 131 days. Jockey Prashanth Dhebe did not hesitate to take Tigris to the front and the progeny of Phoenix Tower enjoyed her foray in front. When the other runners closed in with a furlong left in the race, Tigris showed greater resolution and skipped away to win comfortably from Amaris. Setaglow was a tame third. The well-bred daughter of Multidimensional struggled when the race picked up momentum in the straight.

The well backed Savannah Sound from the stables of trainer Rakesh obliged as a favourite in the 1400 metres Anekal Plate, a race for horses rated 60 and above. Jockey Suraj Narredu had Savannah Sound dictate the pace and the seven-year-old mare was not challenged by any one as she sped to victory. Lucky Pineapple managed to nose out Tremendous in the final stride despite weak handling by jockey Rohith.

After chasing Sancy into the straight, fancied Catwalk Queen pounced on the front-runner and went away for an easy win in the hands of Hyderabad based jockey Sai Kiran in the 1400 metres Shivajinagar Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Campeon made a late rally to edge past favourite Heaven And Earth to get the runner-up berth.

Sai Kiran was also successful earlier in the day on Galaxy Queen who beat the challenge of favourite Oceanic Storm to win the 1400 metres Evita Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Oceanic Storm led in earnest and had the lead going into the final furlong but found no extra gear when Galaxy Queen came charging home from behind. Sufficient Proof saved place money.

Lesser fancied runner Dreamliner from trainer Bobby provided unheralded apprentice Yogesh Vinod Salvi with a winner in the 1200 metres Bugle Rock Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Dreamliner hit the front from the start and expanded the lead into an unassailable one in the final furlong. Favourite Malkia had a hopeless task of catching up with the front-runner and she proved unequal to the task. Catchy Charger was third.

Trainer Prashanth Pawar got a winner through Erebus who made a good rally in the final furlong to get past favourite Deltin to win the 1100 metres Mudigere Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Deltin led in earnest but once apprentice jockey Ajay Kumar corrected the drift of Erebus and got him into a proper rhythm, the long shot drew clear of the favourite. Centurio nosed out Al Dhama to snatch the third place.

Michael Eshwer trained Gusty Wind swamped the opposition in the 1800 metres Whitefield Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Imitation Game swiftly moved to take over the running within the first furlong after losing some ground at the start and led by a distance over Gusty Wind who was eased in second position. Imitation Game lost steam in the straight and Gusty Wind easily overhauled the front-runner and went on to win the race by a widening margin of nine lengths in the hands of apprentice jockey Ryan Ahmed. Absolute Brave managed to nose out a tiring Imitation Game to get the runner-up berth.
