Fink finds the winning mark after a long break

By: Stay Thirsty   July 11 , 2017

The sparingly raced Fink bounced back to winning form when easily containing the challenge of stablemate Excelerate to win the 1200 metres S V Subramaniam Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Tuesday`s Mysore races. The day also saw the stunning victory of Chicago in the concluding race of the day, with a tenner yielding a dividend of over 1600 rupees.

Fink had been a rousing performer in his early days but had been laid low by a tendon injury which had prevented him from running frequently. There is no denying the fact that Fink towered over the opposition but since he was running after 167 days, there was more support for Excelerate who did not measure up to Fink in any manner. Apprentice jockey Ryan Ahmed had Fink dictating the pace with stablemate Excelerate in close attendance. Inside the final two furlongs, Excelerate tried to put pressure on the front-runner but once Fink got into his rhythm, he skipped away. The class of Fink helped him to overcome the sharpness of trip. Fink in his career has won eight races, seven of them in a row and was even successful in the Juvenile Million at Bangalore against superior company. His last win was also against a Bangalore contender Alexander Mills. Lucky Pineapple plodded home in the third position.

Chicago who had stunned the field in the 1200 metres Kemmannugundi Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, certainly hadn`t given an indication of an imminent change in fortunes having finished nearly 20 lengths behind Castle King in his last effort though his back to back wins during his Bangalore sojourn had indicated that he had potential but was waiting for it to be exploited. Dare The Don raced in front even as Chicago was gracing the rear as is his habit. Dare The Don and Amorate were the first to send distress signals when the race came on the boil. Chicago, in the hands of apprentice jockey Muzammil began to weave his way from way behind and devoured ground in the final furlong to go storming clear. Class Above came up with a late bid to finish second ahead of Dare The Don who weakened to finish third while Amorate was a dismal last.

Lesser fancied Alecia was successful in her start to finish mission in the hands of apprentice jockey Anthony Raj in a no whip race. Though Kings Smile looked the likely danger in the final furlong, Alecia could produce that bit extra in the end to storm away from her opponent to win the 1400 metres Doddaballapura Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Kir Royale was third while favourite Queen disappeared when the race came to the boil.

Pratap Kamath trained Point was successful in bringing off a good priced win in the 1200 metres Itarsi Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Tchibouela led freely in front and had the lead going into the final furlong. Closer home, there was a cavalry charge with Point emerging victorious quite comfortably from the battling trio of Starstruck, Triple Crown and Jolfa who finished in close order.

Ranjeet Shinde trained Micron Yaacow recorded an encore in the 1400 metres Kanchanganga Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category by taking control of the proceedings right from the start and winning untroubled. Go Man Go and Silver Wood came up with a late rally to occupy the next two slots behind the winner. Monnappa trained As Always made it last to first in the lower division of the race in the hands of Hyderabad based jockey Sai Kiran. Favourite Precious Script had the charge going into the final furlong but closer home, went down to the strong finish of As Always. Beautiful Revenge was in the third position not far behind.

Trevor Patel who in a bid to hasten reaching the coveted mark of 1000 winners was seen in action in Mysore as well and was successful in adding one point through Power Of God who won the 1200 metres Shuntikoppa Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds for trainer Feroz Khan. Power of God had control of the proceedings and was in no danger of being overhauled by the late rallying Star Gunns. Amazing Safari was third more than four lengths behind the runner-up.
