Mahateji impressive in emphatic victory

By: Tippu Sultan   July 31 , 2017

Srinivas Reddy trained Mahateji recorded an impressive win in the 1400 metres Regency Cup, a race for horses rated 26 to 48 for three-year-olds, the feature event of Monday`s Hyderabad races. The progeny of Multidimensional thus recorded an encore against good quality three-year-olds which augusr well for her prospects in higher category.

The race appeared to be a straightforward fight between favourite Prince Caspian and Mahateji based on their previous wins with Eternal Angel who had summered at Bangalore being a potential threat. The race was expected to favour Mahateji more than the others as she had more scope for improvement as she had run only once whereas the other two took time to come to reasonable level of performance. Jockey Umesh brought Mahateji into contention in the final furlong from about the fourth or fifth position and the lesser fancied runner pricked up great speed to go storming clear for a facile win over Eternal Angel who had all the chances in front but was found wanting when the eventual winner unleashed a powerful run. Eternal Angel finished second best ahead of Supremo and Prince Caspian who was outpaced in the beginning and then struggled to make up the leeway in the straight.

Waseem Ahmed`s Green Image had won against the run of expectations last time out and based on her impressive win, she should have been considered as a strong fancy for the 1400 metres Golden Dagger Plate, a race for horses rated 42 to 62. However, the five-year-old mare was allowed to run at long odds as Kimono caught public fancy. In the event, Green Image who raced in a handy pose behind Astra well into the straight, broke clear for a convincing win over Khoshgel and Mighty Swing. Astra who had all the chances, weakened in the straight to finish fourth while Kimono was not yet ready to deliver the trust.

Vittal Deshmukh trained Cash For Rank looked good to score yet again in the 1100 metres Vijays Conquer Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30 and readily won the race, leaving the field stranded in the final furlong. Prep One stayed on resolutely to deny the late finishing Romantic Fire the runner-up berth. Trainer Ananth Vatsalya had the well fancied winner in the Division II through Abracos who was ridden aggressively by jockey Mukesh Kumar to get the better of front-running Bouncer. Beauty Flash grabbed the third place by a whisker form Wonder Star. Prasad Raju trained Golden Xanthus staved off the challenge of Hunter`s Pride and Racing Ikon to land the spoils in Division III of the race at longer odds.

Deshmukh trained Arc Of History showed lot of class when decimating the opposition in the 1000 metres Set Alight Plate (Div I), a race for maiden three-year-olds. The others proved no match for the progeny of Excellent Art who won the race in smashing manner. Takisha was faraway second ahead of Cymbal. Favourite Free Eagle shaped to win the lower division of the race but closer home, was strongly pressed by Desert Moon. A strong effort by Mukesh Kumar saw Desert Moon get the better of the front-runner in the closing moments of the race. New State was third six lengths adrift.

Amazing Venus just about held on to win from Royal Dynamite, the 1000 metres Flowersoftheforest Trophy, a race for horses rated 26 to 46. What made a critical difference to the outcome of the race was the fact that Amazing Venus had initial speed to lead from the front while Royal Dynamite had to cover the leeway on the front-runner in the home stretch which was significant. Though Royal Dynamite finished with a huge effort, the winning post came to the rescue of the front-runner. Royal Dynamite should make amends next time out. Ragas Ajalias had a useful outing when finishing third.
