Serjeant At Arms simply unbeatable

  August 4 , 2017

Sulaiman Attaollahi trained Serjeant At Arms maintained his winning streak in amazing fashion when he easily beat his only worthwhile opponent Aster Rose in the Gr 2 Karnataka Mile Championship, a terms race for four-year-olds and over, the feature event of Sunday`s Bangalore Summer Races. Serjeant At Arms has lost just twice in his glorious career but in Bangalore, he has proved invincible, each win highlighting the fact that he stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Sandesh had often been guilty of sleeping at the back and letting the opposition establish what has often turned out to be a winning lead. But this time out, he was alert to the task and made his move whenever the jockey of Aster Rose tried to step up the momentum. After Booker Jones set the pace and weakened coming into the homestretch, Aster Rose took over the running but was soon joined by Serjeant At Arms and after a battle which lasted only for only a few strides, the champion strode out majestically. Book Jones was third. The race was run at a brisk pace which is indicated by the timing of one minute 35.68 seconds.

Prithviraj trained Pearl City was clearly the best horse in the fray for the 1200 metres K N Chennabasappa Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 45 to 65. The head to head clash between the other market fancy Queen Credible had gone in favour of Pearl City and as such, the present scales also indicated things favouring the Prithviraj trainee. Jockey Prashanth Dhebe pushed Pearl City to take charge on entering the straight from Amazing Redd and very soon the progeny of Lord Shanakill established her supremacy. Queen Credible was chasing a lost cause when she made good ground late in the race to finish second. Amazing Redd who was the pace-setter stayed on take the third position.

The quality of win recorded by Arjun Mangalorkar trained Fair Warning was such that he deserved to be the favourite for the 1200 metres Lt Col Gaunt Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 30 to 50. However, Louisiana, another impressive of his last start, ended up as a strong favourite. Louisiana led from the start but on entering the straight, was strongly pressed by Fair Warning who steadily took control of the race. Louisiana gave with a semblance of a fight. Though there was a cavalry charge towards the closing stages of the race, Fair Warning had enough legs to last out to win from fast finishing Rum Runner, Minver Rose and Multiple who finished in close order.

Irfan Ghatala trained Donna Rosa had a good forward run to her benefit and this showed in the performance of the daughter of Rebuttal in the 1200 metres V Venugopal Naidu Memorial Trophy, a race for maiden three-year-olds. After Eye Sign expended his energy running freely in front, Panama took charge but only to find Donna Rosa proving too superior. The latter bounced clear in the final furlong to win the race by a widening margin of six lengths from Panama. Hunters Moon was third. Favourite Highland Wind was never in the hunt and struggled to finish fourth.

The name change of Thundersquall as Stanley may not have caught many punters` fancy but the progeny of Arazan who had let down expectations on a few occasions by finishing second best, was seen to advantage in the 1400 metres Assure Girl Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Now under the care of Azhar Ali, Stanley led all the way in the hands of apprentice jockey Syed Imran and held off the challenge of the well backed Cherie Amour quite capably. Princeazeem was third.

Trevor who has been struggling for winners of late, had a lone winner through Love For Life who held off the challenge of Bold Runner, Tic Tac Toe and Incitatus to land the spoils for trainer Satish Narredu in the 1200 metres Sha Tin Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Love For Life was manoeuvred into a handy position along with Tic Tac Toe from the wide outside draw and both these runners fought hard for supremacy before Love For Life proved marginally better.

Jockey John failed to force the issue in a tight finish in the 1600 metres Adrian Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Find rallied on the wide outside while Firoenzo moved with a flourish in the centre of the track. Both charged for home but in the bobbing of heads, Fiorenzo prevailed by the skin of his teeth. Freestyle who led the lead all the way in the final furlong, weakened to finish third.
