Sadeek shocks field in Mysore Race Club Million

By: Stay Thirsty   August 8 , 2017

The Mysore Race Club Million, a terms race for three-year-olds is known to produce shock results but the victory of Bobby trained Sadeek in the race on Tuesday surpassed all other upsets of the past. The progeny of Royal Gladiator showed amazing acceleration in the straight after gracing the rear till the home stretch and then pounced on Psychic Warrior in the closing stages of the race to record a shocking win. The winner paid a dividend of over 80 to 1 on the tote.

Upsets are par for this race but even those looking for an outsider would not have reckoned that Sadeek would be the one capable of that. Australis who had won well over a sprint at Bangalore was considered capable of winning and was installed the favourite though there were better qualified horses in the fray. Autocratic led the field from the start with Psychic Warrior in second position followed by Australis and the rest. Both Ascendent and Sadeek who would finish one and two in the race were at the back of the field. On turning for home, Psychic Warrior gained supremacy and had a good lead going into the final furlong. However, the front-runner could not change gears and plodded on in front. Hence, he was an easy prey for the ones coming fast from behind. Ascendent showed up on the wide outside while Sadeek flew home in the centre of the track. The latter emerged winner from Ascendent and Psychic Warrior while Australis was a poor fourth.

Bobby trained Extra Spark led every inch of the 2000 metres Ganjam Plate, a race for horses rated 60 and above, except the final one. Extra Spark lost by a whisker to rank outside Naval Glory who had apprentice Waseemuddin in the saddle. Extra Spark opened up a good lead from the beginning and had consolidated it further going into the straight as the others preferred to play a waiting game. However, Extra Spark could not skip away in the straight though he held the initiative till the closing strides of the race. The finishing burst of Naval Glory saw the six-year-old getting the nod in the final stride of the race. Storming Home was third.

Nataraj trained Brown Beauty justified the tag of being the favourite by claiming the 1200 metres Monsoon Cup, a race for horses rated 40 to 65 from late-finishing Oceanic Storm. Brown Beauty headed the field on turning for home and enjoyed the lead till the very end. Star Atrium was in earnest chase but found the front-runner hard to pass. Ocean Storm made a belated entry into the fray and did enough to grab the second place by a whisker.

Jockey S John who rode Brown Beauty to victory was also astride another favourite Ace Force in the 1400 metres Queen of the Hills Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, which incidentally was the last race of the summer season. Excelonce led in earnest in the straight and held his ground till the final stages of the race. Ace Force steadily covered the leeway and got stronger close home to record an easy win. Veni Vidi Vici narrowly failed to get the better of Excelonce for the runner-up berth.

Sharavanan trained Chase The Ace was an easy winner of the 1100 metre Golden Fantasy Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. After chasing Run To Win into the straight, Chase The Ace grabbed the lead inside the final two furlongs and kicked on merrily to win the race from Golden Cruise who saved the second position by the skin of her teeth from Golden Cruise.

Jockey Srinath`s persistence had the desired effect on Joey who covered enormous ground in the final furlong to edge past Always United close home in the 1200 metres Sindhu Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category. Erebus, Wylde and Al Dhama raced past the post locked together and finished in the order mentioned behind the runner-up. Trevor Patel drove out favourite Precious Script to win the lower division of the race from Oro Plata and Coffee Time.

Bobby trained Here`s Abbey brooked no opposition in the 1600 metres Scone Stone Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Jockey Sai Kiran brought the well fancied runner from the back of the field and the progeny of Abbeyside shot through the middle with smooth acceleration for a decisive win. Trombone and Precious Asset occupied the next two slots on the frame.
