Apache Sunrise records run-of-the-mill victory

By: Stay Thirsty   August 31 , 2017

Neil Darashah trained Apache Sunrise who is hailed as one of the best three-year-olds currently in training in Bangalore, failed to record an impressive win in the 1800 metres H H Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Thursday`s Mysore races. The nine-furlong race was a lead up race for the talented son of Excellent Art for the Mysore Derby but judging by the quality of win, Apache Sunrise must make a quantum improvement to be a force to reckon with in the main event of the season.

Apache Sunrise raced just twice during the summer season and his second effort was an impressive win, beating Romantic Star despite conceding weight. On the basis of that win it was reckoned that Apache Sunrise would have a walk in the park against a modest lot of horses. However, the expectation did not materialize with jockey Srinath having to strain himself to the maximum to ensure that the unexpected did not happen. Less heralded Michaela came close to toppling the favourite but fell short by half a length.

Apache Sunrise was quoted at unbackable odds and this was in keeping with the belief that the three-year-old colt belonged to the extraordinary group of horses. Suraj Narredu who was sporting the gold and brown silk once again after the Invitation Cup fiasco on Be Safe, had Magistero dictating the pace with Srinath gradually moving up to be in a striking position. Rounding the final turn, Srinath began to work on the favourite but the anticipated acceleration did not materialize as Apache Sunrise took a long while to overhaul Magistero. Just as he had surged ahead, he faced another threat in the form of Michaela who came home with a rush only to miss the berth by half a length. Apache Sunrise right now enjoys lot of hype but now onwards it will be a tougher journey for him as the targets will also prove to be mountainous.

Gregory Sandhu trained Admiral Hatsu was the medium of a gamble in the 1400 metres Cauvery Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest class. One could not imagine how this horse could suddenly be the betting rage when the last run of the horse had seen the four-year-old finish more than 30 lengths behind the winner. His other runs were no better. The alibi was the mock race. Jockey Rayan Ahmed had Admiral Hatsu lead from the start and the progeny of Admiralofthefleet travelled all alone in the front to eventually win by a widening margin of nine lengths over Indian Fury and Air of Distinction. How the horse failed to come anywhere near the board in his previous runs are something hard to digest. When the previous run of a horse is no indicator of the capability of a horse, the integrity of the sport takes a big hit. The authorities should disregard the alibi in such glaring cases for the total reversal of form and they need to be stricter on these matters. Sharat Kumar trained A Crown came from a long way back to land the spoils in the lower division of the race at big odds. Italian Stallion shaped to win the race but was floored in the closing stages of the race by the lesser fancied runner who thus was winning after a wait of 431 days. Tic Tac Toe held off favourite Jack of Hearts for the third position.

Sharat Kumar had another winner in the next race itself through Colour of Gold who just got up in the nick of time to get the nod ahead of late rallying Arziki. James Bond had all the chances but failed to change gears under pressure and faded out of the scene when the race picked up momentum. The late dash of James Bound could only fetch him the second position.

Vishal Yadav trained Anvill Star was ideally positioned to strike in the 1400 metres Sanctity Trophy, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Class Above put up a resistance in front but jockey Srinath on the fancied runner was very forceful despite Anvill Star drifting out under pressure and ensured that the horse had something to spare at the finish. Excelonce was third.

Ganapathy trained Turf Magic had run against good type of horses at Bangalore and as such the filly looked invincible against a mediocre lot of horses that were in the fray in the 1200 metres Indradhanush Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Turf Magic had the race sewn up long way from home and jockey Suraj Narredu repeatedly looked back to see if any other horse was in horizon. There was none and Turf Magic eased past the winning post by a widening margin of six lengths over Princess Sasha. Odyssey was third.

John drove out the fancied Reach The Stars get the better of long-time leader Oceana close home to land the spoils in the day`s opener, the 1200 metres Full Speed Plate, a race for horses rated in the lowest category. Heidrun held off Coffee Time to get the third position.

Hi.. Its very surprising or maybe not that your review and the review on indiarace.com are totally opposite ! Im not sure if you watched the race or not?

As in his winning start during the end of the summer season, yesterday also, Apache Sunrise was on his wrong leg for most of the straight and changed his lead in the last part of the race and quickened when challenged !

He seems to be a very laid back horse who needs to be reminded of his task at hand !
