Negress Pearl scores a scintillating victory

By: Tippu Sultan   September 25 , 2017

Faisal Hassan trained Negress Pearl scored a fine win with a scintillating effort in the 1200 metres Jagital Plate, a race for horses rated 42 to 62, the highest rated event of Monday`s races held at Malakpet. The strongly fancied runner produced a tremendous effort on the final 100 metres to breeze past the battling duo of Big Flash and Mandy. There were intermitted showers which perhaps had a bearing on the performance of quite a few runners.

Mandy who was in fine form was expected to maintain her winning run ahead of Negress Pearl and Royal Dynamite. The last named lost all his chances by losing considerable ground at the start which in the circumstances was impossible to cover up given the fact that the ground was also on the softer side. Mandy attempted a start to finish mission but was hard-pressed to keep the lead in the homestretch as Big Flash essayed a relentless challenge. Inside the distance past, Big Flash got the better of Mandy and was bouncing clear when Negress Pearl came from way back with a huge effort to sail past the front-runner in the shadow of the post. The momentum of Negress Pearl ensured that despite a late effort the horse won much easier than the verdict.

Anupam Sharma trained Lord Gift brought off a big upset in the 1100 metres Tanasha Plate (Div I), a race for maiden three-year-olds. Lord Gift assumed the lead on straightening for home with All Star General essaying a strong challenge. The latter looked set to overhaul the front-runner when Lord Gift pulled out that bit extra from the reserves and managed to spare a neck at the finish. Conroy who did the front-running till turning for home stayed on to take the third spot by a whisker from Good Opinion. A good touch was brought off on first-timer Dippy Dip in the lower division of the race. Dippy Dip came into strong prominence in the final furlong and stormed clear close home to win by a margin of over four lengths. Withrosemakeup, the favourite rallied late but had to settle for the third slot as Titus denied her that place by a narrow margin.

Laxman Singh trained Vijay`s Empress was the runaway winner of the 1400 metres Grand Entry Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. Vijay`s Empress took charge inside the final two furlongs and sped away to win by a margin of over eight lengths. Princess and New Comer disputed for the minor placings. Favourite Symbol of Star`s was nowhere at the busy end. The heavily backed Wine N Dine obliged in the lower division of the race. War Cry attempted start to finish tactics but came under early pressure in the straight and gradually gave up in the final furlong. Wine N Dine who showed up on the wide outside picked up tremendous acceleration and was hailed a winner long way from home. Blaze Of Glory took the second place ahead of Chemical Daddy.

Donald Netto trained Phenomenal Cruise looked a cut above the rest in the 1400 metres Kitty Bank Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 46. The favourite did not disappoint the expectations by shooting ahead with a furlong to go and then drawing clear of the rest to win by a margin of four lengths. Mega Million and Inzaire occupied the next two slots.

Ravinder Singh trained Shandaar was backed to the exclusion of the rest in the 1200 metres Akkanna Plate, a race for horses rated up to 30.
