Prevalent Force extends the dream run of Usha Stud

By: Tippu Sultan   October 2 , 2017

Darius Byramji trained Prevalent Force won the Gr 1 Deccan Derby, the most prestigious race of the season, in extremely adverse conditions at Malakpet on Monday. The victory of Prevalent Force continued the golden run of Usha Stud Farm. The progeny of Multidimensional have been literally sweeping the classics all over India and the victory of Prevalent Force was coming on the back of the success of Sana in the Calcutta version on Sunday. Srinath rode a splendid race on the winner, reacting well to the prevailing conditions.

It became pitch dark even as the horses reached the starting gate. It also began to pour heavily. The conditions were thus difficult as visibility had reduced to almost zero. The loading operations promptly started but the horses were pulled back as it was too dangerous to send them to race as both the riders and horses would be in peril. After a few minutes, the conditions improved marginally and the horses took off for the mile and quarter trip. Tutankhamun who was at the back of the field at the jump out was not inclined to settle and jockey Suraj Narredu had no other go but to circle around the field and take charge. Tutankhamun ran too freely in front and was a spent force when the runners took the final bend and finished last a street behind the winner.

Srinath moved up Prevalent Force to be in a handy position mid-way through the race seeing Tutankhamun in the lead. Lady In Lace was settled in the rear. Rounding the final turn, Prevalent Force gradually took over the running with Lady In Lace coming up with menacing strides. Lady In Lace who is blessed with a good turn of foot looked to get the better of the favourite but ran out of reserves. Prevalent Force pulled away from his challenger in the final 50 metres and won by a margin of over two lengths. Kambaku was third a distance behind the runner-up. Prevalent Force thus was recording the fourth straight win since the summer season and graduated to be a Derby winner in quick time. Lady In Lace was a worthy adversary who brought out her best even in trying circumstances. The rest did not measure up.

Anupam Sharma trained Ashwa Raftar recorded an encore in fine style in the 1400 metres Turf Authorities Cup, a race for horses rated 74 and above. Amorous White was widely expected to maintain his winning form though the progeny of Stern Opinion had proved that the sprint was his forte and that the extended furlong he could get on class. Neeraj Rawal had Amorous White chase Baahubali before taking charge and bouncing clear. However, closer home Amorous White was sending distress signals. Ashwa Raftar picked up tremendous acceleration in the final furlong and overhauled the front-runner with a measure of comfort to record an encore. That`s My Darling ran on to finish third.

Donald Netto trained Big Heart was another to produce a repeat winning performance in the 1400 metres Mumbai Cup, a race for horses rated 42 to 62. Big Heart led from the start and though he was under immense pressure from fast-finishing favourite Mahateji, the front-runner just about lasted out to land the spoils at big odds. Eternal Angel was in the hunt but could not produce that bit extra and ended up a close third, a long neck behind the runner-up.

Trainer Hilton Sequeira had two horses which were in serious betting in the 1200 metres Kolkata Cup, a race for horses rated 58 to78 namely Breezeofthesouth and Awesome Approach. The field looked competitive as was highlighted by the odds. Breezeofthesouth however proved that she was superior to the field by breezing past the front-runners in the final furlong and winning sparing a few lengths at the finish. Aragonda Princess who was at the helm when she was overhauled by the eventual winner, narrowly staved off the late bid of Awesome Approach to get the runner-up berth.

The last race of the day, the1100 metres Tenacity Cup, a race for horses rated up to 30, was held in poor conditions and many of the owners wanted their wards to be withdrawn fearing the impact on the horses in unsatisfactory underfoot conditions. However, the authorities refused to yield to any request and went ahead with the race. The race saw Satyanarayana trained Dream Catcher race all alone in front and win by a distance over Wild Heart and Invasion. Though Dream Catcher may have had credentials to win, the verdict may look flattering on the winner because most were disinterested participants in the race.

Vittal Deshmukh trained Run Rey was the strong favourite for the 1400 metres Mrs K Lakshmi Bhupal Reddy Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Jockey P K Gaddam was unseated from the horse during the race and thus huge expectations went down the drain even before the race has shaped up. Long shot Avantika, despite drifting out of a straight course, won at long odds from Raja Hindustani and late rallying Ikigai.

Faisal Hassan trained Ta Ta obliged the expectations of the punting public when the fancied runner took command of the 1600 metres Commanche Cup, a race for horses rated up to 30, with a furlong left in the race and drew clear for a comfortable win. San Vinto held off Sir Walter Raleigh to get the second place.

The 1200 metres Bhagyanagar Cup, a race for horses rated 26 to 46, produced an exciting finish with Undu Undu Undu winning the race with a powerful surge in the final furlong from to win from Hunter`s Pride in a tight finish. Rebellion, Aston Doulton, Moon Walker and Dolce finished almost in a line in the order mentioned behind the winner and runner-up.

With a late charge, Ashwa Bahula put paid to the hopes of stablemate and longtime leader Exclusive Striker in the 1600 metres Chennai Cup, a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Ashwa Bahula covered plenty of leeway in the final furlong to get past the front-runner in the closing strides of the race to win at big odds. Be Sure was third.

Satyanarayana trained City of Pearls recorded an encore in tremendous fashion, producing a winning gallop in the final furlong to win the 1100 metres Bengaluru Cup, a race for horses rated 42 to 62 in tremendous fashion. Legend made a late charge to grab the second spot ahead of Kireeti and longtime leader Act In Time.
