Romantic Star makes an impressive comeback

By: Stay Thirsty   October 12 , 2017

Padmanabhan trained Romantic Star made an impressive comeback by easily accounting for the opposition in the 1600 metres Sardar K B Ramachandraraj Urs Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Thursday`s Mysore races. Horses in the betting won most races and those who follow this type of horses could not have hoped for better results.

Romantic Star had made an impressive debut during the summer season and was rushed into the Fillies Championship Stakes with a gap of just a week. Romantic Star went down fighting to Manifold who later went on to win the Derby. Romantic Star was subsequently beaten by Apache Sunrise and was making her comeback after a longish break. Though Romantic Star was the winner of just one race, she was running in what is the top category race. Her aura was such that she went to the post at very cramped odds.

Jockey Neeraj Rawal had Romantic Star chase Amazing Redd into the homestretch before goaded the favourite to quicken. The daughter of Multidimensional accelerated well and left the only challenger on the horizon Tiger of Mysore well behind to record an impressive win. Romantic Star is bred to stay and she looked much better than before and this should augur well for her classic conquest in the winter season. The disappointment of the race was the below par performance of Emperador who finished down the field when everyone expected the four-year-old to put up a stiff fight.

Arjun Mangalorkar trained Treasure Quest was an impressive winner of the 1400 metres Autumn Blue Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest class. The three-year-old further benefitted by the allowance claimed by Anthony Raj. Treasure Quest got a nice run along the rails and by the final furlong had Candice and Starry Wind covered. Though Treasure Quest drifted out of a straight course because of the right-handed use of the whip by the inexperienced jockey, the filly was so superior to the field that she won by a comfortable margin of two lengths over Starry Wind. Candice was third. Hidayat Khan trained Zala Princess came up with a sustained burst of speed in the final furlong to edge past the longtime leader Florencia to win the lower division of the race. Incitatus showed flourish with an energetic effort but had to settle for the third slot.

Gregory Sandhu trained Revelnation was brought from way off the pace with a flourishing run in the final furlong by jockey Suraj Narredu and the sparkling acceleration was enough to collar the front-running Lozen for an easy win in the 1400 metres Hotel R R R Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Magical Dancer was stranded in the gates along with Silver Chieftain. Madame Sultana was a handy second into the straight behind Native Elements who did the pace-setting failed to change gear in the straight and was relegated to the third position. Shining Magic who was ridden to the ground when finishing a dismal last in his last effort at Bangalore, was backed to the exclusion of the rest in the lower division of the race. The right thrust was thus there on the Sharat Kumar trainee. Shining Magic raced a handy third or fourth into the straight and gradually gained ascendency in the final furlong to win by a widening margin of three lengths over Carducci and Montenegro.

The heavily supported Wonder Story from the stables of Bipin Salvi obliged huge expectations with a measure of comfort in the 1200 metres One Life To Love Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Nikka showed a lot of speed from the wide outside draw to lead the field into the straight. Wonder Story who was waited with by jockey John in the second position, then alerted his horse to quicken and the favourite picked up momentum with minimum of fuss to win the race easily from a cluster of horses with Saigar, Queen and Nikka finishing in close order, occupying the places behind the winner in the order mentioned.
