Anvill Star staves off Tiger of Mysore

By: Stay Thirsty   December 6 , 2017

Vishal Yadav trained Anvill Star fought a resolute battle with favourite Tiger of Mysore and then held on grimly to win the 1600 metres Treasure`s Nest Plate, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Wednesday`s Mysore races. The lesser fancied runner Anvill Star raced behind pace-setter Gusty Wind before shooting ahead in the homestretch and bringing off an upset win.

The betting was cornered by Tiger of Mysore whose win was considered as more of a possibility than the rest as they were all quoted at nourishing odds. Gusty Wind took over the running soon after jumping out and set a modest pace followed by Anvill Star and the rest. Rounding the final turn, Sai Kiran on Anvill Star got busy and did not waste any time in pushing ahead. The progeny of Rebuttal then established a useful lead which held him in good stead when Tiger of Mysore began to essay a strong challenge. What went against the favourite was the fact that jockey Prashanth Dhebe waited too long in the straight to make his challenge which allowed Anvill Star to escape to victory. Dhebe put an objection against the winning jockey for interference at the start which was overruled.

Ranjeet Shinde trained Greek Goddess who had a good forward run last time out, gave a strong performance in the 1200 metres D V Vishwanath Memorial Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Srinath had no hesitation in taking Greek Goddess on a start to finish mission and the progeny of Canford Cliffs, despite facing a strong challenge from favourite Sydney Harbour and Shining Magic, had enough legs to reach the safety of the winning post. The lower division of the race appeared to more competitive with the horses being well matched in their potential. Hot N Fire was the favourite but the filly who had been temperamental was also steeply penalized for a runaway win at Bangalore and had a difficult task at hand. Havelock Princess had the benefit of a race at Mysore during the previous season while Interesting and Mint who had the credentials were running after a longish break. In the event, Hot N Fire failed to break off well from the gates and was out of the reckoning. Havelock Princess who had the first run on her opponents, stayed on resolutely in front and just about held off the challenge of fast-finishing Mint and Interesting to land the spoils at big odds. Nikka was a close fourth.

Favourite Amazing took almost the length of the straight to surge ahead of Waterfall to win the 1400 metres Bandipur Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Waterfall who was lying in a handy second position, took considerable time to warm up and in the meanwhile, Amazing got into rhythm and produced a strong burst of speed to edge past Waterfall. Beautiful Effect held off Cicitalia to get the third position. Pratap Kamath trained Azure Fire hit the front from the start and had enough cushion to contain the challenge of his opponents to win the lower division of the race. Felix Legion held off the poorly ridden Good Earth. The latter was poorly positioned from the start, came wide into the straight and was a lost cause well before the race came on the boil.

Rakesh trained Excelonce fought off a grim battle with Zidaan to land the spoils in the 1400 metres Pandavapura Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Kazuri led for most part of the trip before Excelonce got the edge in the final furlong. Zidaan joined the issue on the wide outside and the two fought for the spoils right up to the post with Excelonce prevailing in the end. Favourite Beyond Thankful could do no better than finish third.

Favourite Jayadratha led all the way in the 1600 metres Sakaleshpur Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45, except the final stride and lost the race in a tight finish. Srinath appeared to have covered the opponents but Golden Success came home with a furious run which got the desired result. Declaration of Love staved off Alaina and Perfecto to save place money.

Ranjeet Shinde trained Country`s Sepoy brought off a big upset in the 1100 metres K R S Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Jockey Manohar had Country`s Sepoy take charge in the final furlong, making progress along the inside and had enough lead to reach the safety of the winning post when favourite Bold Nature made a late bid. Amazing Beauty was third.
