Destined Dynamite romps home in feature

By: Tippu Sultan   December 18 , 2017

Arjun Anne trained Destined Dynamite recorded a comprehensive win in the 1400 metres Mysore Race Club Plate, a race for horses rated 58 to 78, the feature event of Monday`s races held at Malakpet. Destined Dynamite who had run a fair race against a formidable company in the Guineas, made mincemeat of the opposition with a scintillating run down the final furlong.

Destined Dynamite should have gone to the post as a short-priced favourite but surprisingly the odds expanded, with Mirfield coming in for spirited support. There was a belief that since Destined Dynamite warms up rather late to his task, the seven-furlong trip could prove his undoing. Mirfield who moved up swiftly entering the homestretch, had the first run on her opponents but once Destined Dynamite warmed up to the task, the race was as good as over. Destined Dynamite devoured ground and charged away from his opponents. Sweet March staved off Tiger to get the third place.

Donald Netto trained Amazing Response who always gave hopes but found one better perhaps benefitted by the removal of blinkers as he was settled behind to make his challenge in the final furlong. The tactic proved right as Amazing Response produced a strong effort to get the better of Star Gazer in the final stride to win the Crown Treasure Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Freedom Fire who was the favourite without any strong credentials vis-à-vis his opponents, finished on well to take the third position against the more experienced opponents. He returned lame as well. Laxman Singh trained Free Eagle let down huge expectations in the lower division of the race. The ten to 1 shot Desert Moon led aggressively led in front and was untroubled by the ones following him as he stayed put to win quite easily. Lord Gift held off Free Eagle by a whisker to grab the runner-up berth. Free Eagle failed to show any spark and was a beaten cause long way from home.

The well prepared Athenaeus from trainer Laxman Singh`s stables easily won the 1200 metres Chaitanya Ratham Plate, a race for maiden two-year-olds. Athenaeus and Sublime shared favouritism but the latter who got good support in the betting ring because of the presence of David Allan, looked out of sorts and far from ready as she failed to get a good start and looked at sea to eventually finish poorly. Sublime was lethargic at the start and was a lost cause from the word `go`. Athenaeus tackled the front-running Semper Fidelis in the final furlong to go storming ahead to win by more than two lengths. Nimble Mind who had the run benefit was third, but the filly needs more ground to make a mark.

Ravinder Singh trained Treasure Striker obliged as a favourite in the 2000 metres Bonzer Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Treasure Striker and Rutilant were the market fancies. Both these horses raced in the rear end of the field. While Suraj brought Rutilant the shortest way home and shot ahead, the second favourite could not sustain his lead in front when Treasure Striker showed up with a powerful effort on the wide outside. Treasure Striker surged ahead in sight of the post and won quite well. Valle Tiger managed to keep the third place by a whisker over Symbol of Star`s.

Satheesh trained Meritocracy benefitted by the good forward that she had and scored a decisive win in the 1600 metres Jockey Purtu Singh Parmar Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 42 to 62. Jockey Akshay Kumar waited with the fancied runner till turning for home and then had his horse take the gap along the rails. Meritocracy had the speed to take the gap and then sped away for an easy win over Seven Eleven who had charged ahead at the top of the straight. The well backed Juneau was third.

It was difficult to pick any horse as the possible winner in the 1200 metres Tribute Plate (Div I), as the race was contested by horses of inferior credentials. Lesser fancied Aalishaan who had the services of local champion jockey Akshay Kumar showed up prominently at the top of the straight and very soon, had things his way. Aalishan skipped clear of his rivals to record an easy win. Cannon Fury made a late charge and succeeded in snatching the runner-up berth from Glorious Grey. The lower division of the race also posed the same problems as the upper division. Negress Princes emerged from the pack with about 300 metres left in the race and then stretched away from the field in the hands of jockey Sai Kiran. Cannon Grey woke up from slumber to make a late dash to occupy the second place ahead of favourite Rohini.
