Botswana Bolt maintains winning form

  March 14 , 2018

Darius Byramji trained Botswana Bolt who had recorded an impressive win last time out, maintained his winning form with another emphatic performance in the 1400 metres Racing Patrons Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of the postponed races held on Wednesday. The races were originally scheduled to be held on Friday but were postponed because the tote workers went on a flash strike protesting unfair practices of the managing committee which sought to victimize them by resorting to cut in their earning capability.

Since Botswana Bolt had immense scope to move up on the handicap scales, the progeny of Multidimensional was backed with conviction to oblige though there were a couple of recent winners who too had their credentials. Mickey Mouse led the field with Royal Serenity and Botswana Bolt in close proximity. Deep into the straight, Royal Serenity got the better of the pace-setter and surged ahead. Botswana Bolt had to be pulled out to get a clear run and though he had some leeway to cover, under the driving finish of jockey Srinath, the favourite covered ground and drew clear at the finish. The consistent Fair Game, with a late dash, occupied the third place.

Imtiaz Khan trained War Hero had the benefit of a good forward run and was accordingly made the firm favourite to win the 1100 metres Ardent Knight Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. War Hero had a comfortable lead going into the final furlong but was given a scare by the unfancied Rajveer who finished with a flourish and came within reach of overhauling the favourite. Sakura was third.

Prithviraj trained Golden Bow recorded an encore in the 1200 metres Suresh Kumar Sharma Memorial Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 30 to 50. Blue Blazer came in for solid support to end up as a firm favourite. Golden Bow was brought into contention with a well-timed run by jockey Ahsan Qureshi and the lesser fancied runner got the better of front-running Black Lightning and staved off the late rally of Blue Blazer. The lower division of the race saw the biggest upset of the day with Powerscourt literally coming from the last position at the final bend to produce a scintillating run to get the measure of Celtic Mist and Humming Bird to land the spoils at fancy odds.

Lesser fancied Louisiana brought off an upset in the 1200 metres Kumararajah M A M Muthiah Trophy, a race for horses rated 30 to 50. Malawi and Noah`s Ark were the market leaders and these two horses went at a scorching pace in front much to their own detriment. While Noah`s Ark packed up under pressure, Malawi battled on only to be shocked by the late rally of Louisiana. Malawi barely managed to keep the runner-up berth from Ultimate Magic who was full of running at the finish.

The hopes of trainer Nityanand to lead in a winner through Declarationoflove in the 1600 metres Chintamani Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35, came to nought in the closing strides of the race. Apprentice jockey Shamaz Shereef almost got his act right but in the final moments of the race, Samar Singh trained Czar Rule got his neck in front at the post to land the spoils at nourishing odds.

Neil Darashah trained Ballerophon came in for one-sided support in the 1400 metres Shivaganga Falls Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Suraj Narredu pushed Ballerophon to take charge on turning for home and the favourite built up a useful cushion going into the final furlong. Though Assertive Prince produced a big rally, in the end, it was not good enough to overhaul the front-runner who was safely in the vicinity of the winning post

Favourite Shades of Desire produced a powerful gallop in the final furlong to stave off the strong bid of Rhapsodyein Queen to win the 1200 metres Antara Gange Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Rosebrook had the lead going into the final furlong but closer home, three horses charged home with Shades of Desire getting the nod in the end. Tokyo Rose was third.
