Kishore, Laxman Singh in limelight

By: Tippu Sultan   July 25 , 2018

Newly licensed trainer C V G K Kishore who shifted base from Mysore and Laxman Singh cornered the limelight in the races held at Malakpet by saddling three winners each. Quite a few fancied runners obliged in the eight event card in keeping with the tradition of well prepared favourites obliging in the early part of the season. However, Kishore also had the distinction of saddling the highest dividend yielding Symbol of Gold who brought off the biggest of the day in one of the main events.

Symbol of Gold was the surprise winner of the day in the 1200 metres Fond Hope Plate, a race for horses rated 42 to 62 which was also the highest rated event of the day. Jockey B R Kumar had Symbol of Gold lead from the start and though the front-runner drifted out and then rolled over to the rails under pressure, the five-year-old mare had enough legs to reach the safety of the winning post. Meritocracy tried hard to catch up but fell shot in the end. Favourite Clarissa too was in contention but failed to produce that bit extra which made a difference to the outcome of the race.

Laxman Singh trained Rani Laxmi Bai Plate, a race for three-year-olds. Southern Legacy had the credentials to be the favourite and the bookies were unwilling to offer a generous price on his success. Southern Legacy asserted his supremacy in the final furlong and skipped clear to win by a widening margin of Wings of Angels who edged out Nimble Mind in the closing stages of the race to snatch the runner-up berth.

Kishore trained Real Champ chased runaway leader Amazing Venus well into the straight before bouncing clear to win the 1100 metres Aristocracy Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Real Champ was so superior to the field that jockey Arshad Alam was not required to exert on the horse to extract the win. Lighting Fin made a late dash to neck out Rose Petals to secure the runner-up berth. Favourite Staridar made no show and finished in the ruck. Laxman Singh trained Super Dart who was the first favourite for the lower division of the race, appeared to be in a spot of bother but once Kuldeep Singh pulled the three-year-old out from the pack and gave a clear run on the wide outside, he darted away for a superb win. Icon Grey had a useful outing when edging out Indian Dreams for the second place.

Laxman Singh`s horses appear to be more forward than the others and this is why he is reaping a rich harvest right from the start of the season. Mozambique was well backed to win the 1400 metres Warangal Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Mozambique tracked Wannawin into the straight before Deep Shanker released the brakes on the favourite. The progeny of Western Aristocrat picked up speed instantly and broke clear to record an easy win. Apowerx rallied late to get the second place ahead of the long time leader. Vittal Deshmukh trained Hope Is Eternal who enjoyed public trust was not up to delivering the goods as she let down yet again. Escobar led till the final furlong before being overwhelmed by Exclusive Symbol. The latter had a good lead when the lesser fancied Sarvatra began to make her bid. However, the progeny of Surfrider covered the ground swiftly and in fact, was getting stronger at the finish as she spared a length and half at the finish. Escobar stayed on to take the third position.

Prasad Raju trained Guiding Force was backed to the exclusion of the rest in the 1400 metres Cupid Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. It was clear that Guiding Force was waited with for this touch as the three-year-old proved infinitely superior to the opposition as he sped away in the final furlong for an effortless win in the hands of jockey Nilesh Rawal. Fabulous Art was second while in the bobbing of heads Sisco managed to save place money from Own Battle. Kishore trained Sher Afghan was another favourite to easily oblige. Sher Afghan took the lead approaching the final 200 metres and broke clear to win the lower division of the race quite easily from Glorious Grey and All that Jazz.
