Reunion trounces field in Malakonda Trophy

By: Tippu Sultan   August 22 , 2018

Hilton Sequeira trained Reunion trounced the opposition in the 2000 metres S Malakonda Reddy Memorial Trophy, a handicap race for horses rated 58 to 78, the feature event of Wednesday`s Hyderabad races. Reunion who had summered at Bangalore appeared vastly superior both in terms of fitness and performance capability and it manifested in the easy win achieved against a submissive opposition.

Kolors set the pace followed by Eternal Angel while jockey Akshay Kumar eased favourite Reunion in about the fifth position. Southern Promise lost some ground at the start while Farsight raced tailed off last. Midway in the stretch, Reunion came through the middle of the field and took command of the race with a furlong left in the race. Treasure Striker gave a chase but found the favourite too good for comfort. Far Sight ran from way behind to grab the third place.

Prasad Raju trained Drogan had the best credentials to win the 1100 meters Prince Pradeep Plate (Div I), a race for maiden three-year-olds. Jockey Suraj Narredu had an easy job on the favourite who stormed ahead of the pack inside the final 200 metres and won with ease. Arohi who finished second could have made the finish a tight one but under the right-handed whipping of Ajit Sigh, Arohi drifted out of the straight course and finished on the outer rail which completely ruined the chances of the long shot. Goddess of Fire held off Running Fire to save place money. The same combination failed to win the lower division of the race as the favourite Blazing Speed found Laxman Singh trained Kamyar proving to be too good. Suraj went on a start to finish mission on Blazing Speed but the favourite surrendered without a fight with the well-fancied Kamyar essayed a strong challenge. Magic Street was third.

Laxman Singh trained Raajneeti won the 1800 metres Palampet Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Mozambique was the strongly fancied runner but after leading the field into the straight, the favourite weakened and finished in the ruck. Mozambique`s stablemate Rajneeti who was at long odds went away for an easy win after racing a handy second behind the favourite. Vijay`s Empire was third.

With the front-runners taking the turn miles wide, favourite Buddy Brothers got a clear run along the rails and Suraj then had no problem in driving out the favourite to an emphatic win in the 1400 metres Chandrayaan Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. Woodbridge and Mahismati occupied the next two slots without making much impression. In the pouring rain, jockey Akshay Kumar drove out Golden Hope to win the lower division of the race. The favourite asserted his supremacy inside the final 100 metres. Three horses finished in a line for minor berths with Tough Sussex getting the second position ahead of Lancashire by a whisker.

Classic Remark`s runaway tactics came to grief in the 1400 metres Dal Lake Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 46 as favourite Wave Rider overwhelmed the front-runner with a furlong left to run and won as he pleased. Classic Remark packed up abruptly after being overhauled and finished in the ruck. On the Fire headed Promiseofhappiness to get the runner-up berth.
